Dale Murray is leading the league in era and innings pitched. Hoyt Wilhelm is leading the league in wins with 26. Both super relievers are putting up unreal numbers:

I saw some league where Dale Murray was 34-5.. in my past 5 leagues or so ive adopted the super reliever strategy and not all Dale Murray who does well in that role for the most part. I've see guys even using the likes of Vern Kennedy as super reliever (judging from innings total). As long as players hit 90 homers and knock in 200 runs in the online game i'm not going to criticize and will even continue to use super relievers myself. Its pretty easy to use and adjust settings and what i love most is it helps keep the other 4 stiff relievers off the mound. It would drive me nuts when id draft a Sutter and HAL would have a Sambito type racking up even more innings then Brucie.

Nothing super special about Murray's won loss record but he is carrying entire pitching staff otherwise. My hitting is still ranking better than my pitching even playing in Griffith '11. This isn't a theme league, i just wanted to see how far a Murray could carry the pitching.

When you think about it, this online game has always been about anticipating HAL's moves as much as it has been about reading cards. If you were at the helm, a lot of fringe players with specialties one way or another would be used with great success, but we can't trust HAL to use them correctly so we ignore the cards.

Platoons would be more effective if we could run the game. The bullpen is better, but I'm sure we'd still do better than HAL. The game to game lineups and matchups would be much better managed by a human than by HAL, but the three game series make reverse players more effective.

This is one of the reasons the super reliever is more powerful. It prevents mis-usage of weaker players by benching them.

My 2 cents...

I've played strat a long time. My first cards were for the 1969 season. With the old basic version, you could abuse anybody. Imagine, Ken Tatum 8 innings every game if you wanted to. Never getting tired.

This is a game with a specific set of rules. Any strategy you employ within that set of rules is OK. If you want realistic, then make that a rule prior to starting the league. We didn;t play the game hoping to achieve the same results as what actually happened. If so, why would I have continued to play the 4th place 69 and 70 Cardinals? We play in hopes of achieve something different and being able to manipulate it to the best of our ability.

I once had Dal Maxvill hit 3 HR in one game. did I ***** about it? hell, no. I played against a guy who was playing for the first time. He stole third and home with Johnny Bench.

We don't play this to achieve reality. We play it to manipulate it to our advantage. That's what make is fun!

lets remember one thing about Bonds and other big hr hitters in the last 15 years or so. They have all gotten to play in era where pitchers.... don't, can't, or frowned upon to do so ....pitch inside and make batters deal with some knockdowns once in a while. I mean for goodness sakes....after Bonds put on all his body armour and got in the box....his arms were pretty much in the strike zone. oh...how I wished i could have seen Bonds hit against Gibson or Drysdale ..to name a couple.
