Reelin' in the Years League

Postby padrenurgle1 » Tue Mar 20, 2012 11:55 pm

After 2011, the situation becomes more like fantasy leagues. We could never have a "minor league" system before, since we always knew what guys were going to do "some day." After 2011, it's just an added wrinkle, to speculate about Bryce Harper, for instance.

I'm fine with it, and also fine with keeping things as they always have been (i.e., wait a year for the 2012 set to come out, and the do a 10-round draft based on the actual cards that come out).

Unleashed is another thing that should be put to a vote. I think it's a fine idea if we develop prospects, since some of the prospects have a better chance of showing up in that set.

Delgado retires

Postby tcochran » Wed Mar 21, 2012 9:21 am

The Good Vibrations today announced the retirement of their all-time home run leader, Carlos Delgado. He joined the club in 2002 and led them to the title in 2003 with 56 homeruns and an OPS of 1.047, both of which are still team records.

Adios, Carlos!

2010 season

Postby tcochran » Wed Mar 21, 2012 9:37 am

The 2009 playoffs are in progress this week.

And here's the schedule:

Monday, March 19: Playoffs begin.

Sunday, March 25 - Wednesday, March 28: Finals end.

Wednesday, March 28: Deadline to make drops; all owners must drop enough players to bring their rosters to a maximum of 30 players, allowing for 10 draft picks. Owners can drop below 30 players, but must not have fewer than 25 prior to the draft.

Friday, March 30: Draft begins for 2010 season, to be done in this chat thread.

As in recent years, there will be a 2-hour clock for every pick (10AM - 10PM Eastern) -- INCLUDING THE FIRST ROUND -- as long as all drops are posted prior to the start of the draft.

There is no requirement for a team to drop a player who is not issued a card in the new year's set; e.g., if a star player from 2009 is injured in 2010 but will be able to play again in 2011, then that player can remain on a team's roster (as one of their 40 players) while using the 2010 card set.

As before, managers who release their current stadium prior to the beginning of the draft will be allowed to draft a new one, in the final round.

As far as I know, there are no significant game engine changes from 2009 to 2010. As in the current year, we must carry a minimum of 24 active players and the initial team load must have 11 pitchers and 14 hitters.

I loved watching Delgado's Toronto years. That man had a savage swing.

my two cents...I agree unleashed should have minimums of innings or at bats to be eligible.
as for prospects...limiting each roster to 2 or 3 never or yet to be carded players sounds like a good compromise.

i didn't mean I was "against" a prospect draft - guess going into thr 2012 season it would be a good idea. will go with what everyone else wants to do - I vote FOR the Unleashed set - using any card available.

Prospect Draft Comments

Postby JMP1 » Thu Mar 22, 2012 7:22 am

I am in favor of a prospect draft and would like to make the following proposals.

1. Teams have the rights to prospects until the player makes the major leagues and receives a card or is released by the owner.

2. The [b:6218476038]initial[/b:6218476038] draft order should be set by the cumulative records over the past three seasons. Because we place teams in divisions based on the prior season, an excellent team has a substandard record in a division of last season's playoff teams and weak team wins a division of other weak teams.
Stronger teams get stronger in a draft that is supposed to give the weakest teams a shot at the best prospects. This might balance the league a bit going forward.
