Disgusted

Team's actual final payroll was $95.24 million. Must have made a lot of early-season roster adjustments.

for the record

Postby 1787 » Thu Mar 22, 2012 3:20 pm

at the time of this message this Bozzo has a 20-52 record and his payroll is at about 41 mil. apprx 50% less than he started at, my early prediction 0f 109 loses may be short as I will be suprised if he dosnt lose 120. The teams in his division have yet to capitalize for the wildcard lead but with more than half a season left I wouldnt count them out. Ive gone from disgusted to entertained, but for sure I will make sure never to be in a league with him again.

125 player limit or not, there is a rule against salary dumping. Clearly, there is no equivocation on whether he salary-dumped.

Having owners making moves that reflect ignorance is the single most realistic thing about on line SOM. However, one could argue that such teams and owners should be compelled to name themselves the LA Dodgers or NY Mets so they can be easily identified by prospective opponents.

just an observation

I'm in several leagues in which my team started out mediocre to fair. As the leagues have progressed to the midway point my teams haVe steadily moved up in the standings. Looking at the other teams ,each league has a few new managers who have dropped and added between 15-30 players. As result weakening their teams as the stand pat teams become relatively stronger.
I did the same thing as a rookie....hardest thing is to keep your finger off the drop button when a player is not performing. Patience is rewarded. Also, it is hard to realize when you start that these are all star teams...don't drop a pitcher whose era is 3.50 and giving up homers just because on his card the historical era is 1.80 ....or drop the Babe cause his avg .290 and he's facing one 10million dollar pitcher after another.

[quote:f489415b8f]If the producers of the game felt this type of situation (so many player moves) was a problem, the 125-player limit would have been set much lower. IMHO, at least.

Than again, perhaps it should be at least a bit lower. [/quote:f489415b8f]
It would be helpful if distinctions were made between preseason and postseason transactions. Preseason moves have little potential to damage integrity of league. 125 moves once the season begins is turning your team over 5 times. No what that is called for.

In real life when sports have a salary cap they have a salary floor. Perhaps there should be a rule that once you reach some specified percentage of the league cap no more drops are allowed and trades could only be made if they left you above the floor.

That should take care of this problem.

Back when I started in 2001 I often would start a season well below the cap if I did not get the players I wanted in the autodraft. I was counting on people giving up on good players and wanted money to buy them with. Did quite well with that strategy at 80 mil level.

Just started a league this week.
15 games in, Kriff has dropped 19 players. :(
He sucks and the West will get the wild card because of him.

In a 100mil league right now that has a lot of inexperience, even first time players, and a few of them have made a boat load of moves after opening day. That is their right but as a semi experienced player I would like to warn them of the hazards of such reactions without preaching to them. Anybody here have a quick piece of advice on how to describe devaluing of a team that I could maybe pass along to them?

To no surprise the few managers doing this in said league started off bad and still have the worst records, only now they have dropped so much in salary while making these changes that they now have lesser players throughout to try to climb out of their hole, and the odds are totally stacked against them.
