Guys, I cant draft on Friday the 13th, at least not at 730EST. My son has a high school baseball game, and I will not be able to. I could just participate in the Frenzy, or I could turn in a proxied list.

What do we do about this? Who will handle his Proxies if we accept that suggestion? And ... if the Frenzy is an hour earlier ... at 11 PM ET, make sure he knows that, too.

Game will start at 6CST. It is a home game and I should be home by 9CST/10EST. I will proxy a list to David, then can get a team in before 11EST.

BTW, my boy threw a complete game 4 hit Shutout with 10 strikeouts tonight. Clinched a playoff berth to boot..... :D  8-) 8-)

Let's try to accommodate Andy!

Postby BDWard » Sat Apr 07, 2012 10:35 am

I know that I'm new here and I know that David has worked hard to get a time for the draft and to give everyone plenty of advance notice, but can't anything more be done to accommodate Andy?

While I can't speak for everyone, I believe we would all choose an important family event over online Strato EVERY time. It's a no brainer.

Proxies just don't cut it, especially in a league like this. Not only will such a draft likely put Andy's team at a season long disadvantage, but it could tilt the competitive balance of the league in favor of the teams in Andy's division. Does anyone really want that?

While I know that it may be difficult to get us all to be available at the same time, it would be nice to at least explore the possibility of such, as any one of us could easily find ourselves in Andy's position in the future. I would think that a Sunday night would be best. Who cares if we delay the start of the league in the interest of fairness and good competition?

What do you think guys?

P.S.: Congrats to Andy and his son and best wishes for continued diamond success. The kid obviously gets his talent from his mom! But seriously, while it helps to have good genes, that's just part of the story. I'll bet Andy early on put in countless hours playing catch, throwing batting practice, hitting fly balls and grounders, coached teams, took his kids to games and watched them on TV together and did all the right things to not only develop the skills needed to be a good athlete, but also helped instill the love of the game and competition. Kudos to Andy, and all parents, for undertaking this labor of love. I want this kid for my futures league, but only if Andy IS NOT his agent!

Sorry for my delay in posting guys! Crazy week with trying to close on the new house, work, family coming into town for the Holiday etc....
BD makes a good point and as we have always tried to work around issues like this, we should make an attempt to do so now. I would suggest we draft Friday at 10:30. (Hey! It IS Friday night!) We could then set the Frenzy for 5:00 pm est on Sunday as suggested. Actually, anytime Sunday is negotiable but 5 seems like a good time. I need everyone to chime in on this plan and let me know if this works. Delaying the league is no big deal, IMHO, and if we really wanted to, I can always send a letter to Bernie to have it start on Monday anyways. Let me know what you guys think of this option.
Andy, congrats to you and your future HOF'er! I miss when my boys were still playing! So much fun to watch! Keep us posted about his playoff games! I'm sure everyone will be interested to know how they do!

I pitched in High School. I'm also only 5'7". Most pitchers tend to be a little taller. My coach told me after one game, the opposing coach came up to him and told him..."He's so short when he throws....it looks like the ball is coming out of his shirt sleeve!"

This is doable

David: Thanks for making the effort to accommodate our diverse schedules.

Friday 10:30 P.M./Sunday 5:00 P.M. EST is doable for me, though I would prefer a little later on Sunday. Question: Instead of doing this over two nights, would it be easier for purposes of GM availability to do it all on one night as originally planned?

I'm good either way.

Just chiming in here - I will have oral surgery (with anesthesia) earlier in the day, and I may be completely out of it when 10:30 ET rolls around, but I'll try to make it work.

I agree with Bernie. I think the draft and frenzy should be on the same night, whatever that turns out to be. Almost any evening is good for me.

There are two other options we still have time to consider:
First...we conduct the entire draft/frenzy on Sunday at 5:00 and schedule the frenzy for 8:00 est.
Second....we could just move the entire draft to Friday April 20th.
I've left out Saturday's as Mort indicated those don't work well for him.
Opinions?

Why dont we start the draft now at the ILC and finish by Thursday? We could load our teams on Friday for a Friday night frenzy ?
