Round 1: Teams 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10, 11, 12
Round 2: Teams 7,8,9,10,11,12,1,2,3,4,5,6
Round 3: Teams 12,6,11,5,10,4,9,3,8,2,7,1[/b:c73861e3d9] [/i:c73861e3d9]


For a odd numbered draft the above ordering definitely is as close to evenly distributed as possible. A job well done!

Out of curiosity, given that - minus the NEL and minus tampa bay who have 0 players - there are exactly 48 teams available with players that qualify, did you consider using a 4 round serpentine draft?

I did consider that, but thought that those making the last few selections would be lamenting the slim pickings at the bottom of the barrel. So I thought that I'd try to see if I could still utilize my math skills...lol.

Anyway, if it were to help fill the league, I have no problem in making it a 4 team serpentine draft, and strongly suspect that the others who have signed up would agree.

You have certainly proven that your math skills are working well. Using just a basic rating system to evaluate the picks, overall it seems like picks 7 - 12 are slightly ‘better’ than 1 – 6; thereby offsetting the obvious benefit of having a higher initial draft pick. I am duly impressed with what your efforts should accomplish.

Regarding the possible 4 round serpentine draft and the limited talent available with the probable last selections; my feelings were that most of those last roster choices may be limited in size but certainly do offer top end talent which might help the selectors fill specific needs at that point in the draft. I just thought that maybe some managers may be more attracted to the typical serpentine model. I am in regardless of the method you choose. Should be a fun league.

... i previously had not spent much time really looking in depth at the players available solely in the post WWII group until today. I did not realize that the player pool is so much more limited than the exp era players. I can now see more clearly why the 3 round draft is such a good option.

I had noticed that also when I was kicking around the idea of proposing a league made up of just the post-WWII teams. There's basically 16 franchises. How do you think this would fly? Off the top of my head, I think the top 4 would be - Yankees, Dodgers, Giants and either Braves or Indians.
Put them in 1 division. The next middle 4, so to speak, might be - either the Braves or Indians, Whitesox, Phillies and Reds in the second division. And then the bottom 8 - let them double up in what would be the most equitable combinations in the final division.

The intradivisional games should be competitive, but most likely the four teams in the top division would dominate the others, but just like a golf tournament that's flighted - there's going to be a winner in each division and who knows where the wild card might evolve from.

Anyone have any other thoughts or ideas about it? I just like this era and would like to play in a league comprised of these players.

My 2 cents worth is I like the original idea. Mixing a matching to fill out a team can be a challenge and has appeal to me.
