I am Entitled to a Rant!

I'm really starting to wonder why I play this game. Tonight I got swept. That happens and I can accept it. But in two of the three games I played, I was defeated by a homerun in the bottom of the ninth inning.

One of the homeruns came off Eduardo Sanchez, who doesn't give up a homerun anywhere on his card. In the other game, Steve Cishek gave up two homers, one in the bottom of the ninth to lose the game. Like Sanchez, Cishek doesn't give up a homerun anywhere on his card.

In the 6 series before tonight's debacle, my team lost two out of three games. Before this slide started, I was rated third in the league in both offense and pitching. Now I'm rated 4th in offense and 5th in pitching.

Is it merely a streak of incredible bad luck or sheer horse puckey? I can't tell you how many times Ryan Howard has missed a ballpark homerun (1-15 chance) or HAL has brought in Venters with the game on the line to pitch to a guy who eats lefties for breakfast. To top it all off, Carlos Pena, who is hitting a whoping .123, has hit three homers off my team this week. He was on one team and cracked one against me, got taded and hit another two off my pitchers later in the week. The run of bad luck is simply phenomenal.

Remarkably, my team is still in first place in my division, hanging on to a three game lead.

Maybe the reason that I'm so disgusted with Strat is because, in addition to the above-described run of phenomenal back luck, my 70's team self-destructed over the same period if time, blowing a 5 game lead going down the stretch and pulling a Gene Mauchian style collapse of epic proportions, posting a 4-17 record and finishing in third place in their division.

If things continue the way they are going, I think I'm going to hang it up. I've enjoyed playing over the last two years, but to get so many bad breaks simultaneously with two teams is frustrating and detracts from the enjoyment of the game.

Calm down. I understand the need to rant. All of us have had streaks like that where it seems like every close call is against us. Unfortunately, this is a dice game and bad rolls will happen but when you look at it objectively it's not the universe against us.

50% of rolls come of hitters cards so the HR's off the RP's you mentioned are not that unrealistic.

Carlos Pena has a low BA, high HR card.
Venters wasn't used as a LOOGY in real life so why do you think he should be treated like one in SOM?

Being a Phillies phan and watching probably 2/3's of their games has tempered my expectations of strat. 102 win team last year but watching their offense can be so frustrating. Last couple of seasons they got knocked off early in the playoffs. Just like strat. You can win your division and lose in first round.

I do understand your rant but these things do happen in real life and strat.

I would also suggest looking at the rolls that went your way when they probably should not have. It's part of the game as well.

Have people forgotten the epic collapse of the Red Sox last year?

And if people really are fed up and going to quit strat, spare us the pain of reading your "injustice" (a 3 game lead in 1st place, how horrible!!) and just walk away quietly.

And the Braves collapse as well...

It happens. It makes us all want to rant...Stoney summed it up perfectly. We all get swept, sometimes against good or bad teams. It's frustrating. But it is only a game. With the world at war and our economy in a shambles, there are a lot worse things that can happen.

Whenever I feel frustrated and unable to have my way, I usually try to remember a quote by professional baseball player, gambler and prophet, Mickey Rivers who said: "Ain't no sense worryin' bout things you got no control over. Cuz if you got no control over em', ain't no sense worryin'...Ain't no sense worryin' bout things you got control over...Cuz if you got control over em', ain't no sense worryin'...So the moral of the proverb - Stress doesn't change the outcome. It just makes you feel like Ship...

My online strato career has included 35,231 wins and 34,936 losses. I've been known to RANT about 34,936 times in my career so I understand the frustration.

Also, I once lost a Finals to FrankM!!!! If that doesn't put you over the edge, i don't know what would.

35,231 + 34,936 = 70,167 games

70,167 / 162 = 433+ seasons

433 x $25 = $10,825

Damn! At $10,00, do they start issuing stock in the company?!?

Player usage

Postby corey375 » Mon Apr 23, 2012 2:18 am

Two things drive me to the brink of hurling my computer across the room:

1. Watching the replays and seeing HAL managing my team like a little league coach (I leave my starters in way too long in spite of my quick hook setting for them, and seem to pick relievers' names out of a hat when I finally do get around to bringing them in), while managing my opponent's team like Earl Weaver or Billy Martin.

2. Moves that no one in their right mind would make. Ever. For example, for a variety of reasons I recently started Andres Torres in RF instead of Justin Upton. Bottom of 8, Torres comes up with a runner on vs. Kerry Wood, HAL lets him hit. Top of 9, HAL brings in Upton to play RF. If you want to bring in Upton to pinch hit, great. If you want to roll with Torres all the way, I can live with it. But let the crappy hitter hit, then bring in the high-e guy to play the field? Are you kidding?
