Kriffing

Kriffing

I am delighted to see that Kriff lives. It creates so much lively discussion, in and of itself worth the price of admission even if it destroys leagues. It occurs to me that it would be a devious strategy to create a Kriff character and enter Kriff teams in your own division. It would disproportionately benefit your team. You could also set managerial strategy for the Kriff team when it plays your primary team to try to further assure that the Kriff team loses against the primary team. I wonder if there are any other players who have teams in the same division as Kriff consistently? I seem to recall that we toyed with the idea of actually creating a league using this premise, in which all 6 managers had two teams and this was the open strategy of the league.

Whenever I hear about moronic management, I am forced to remember the ultimate example of it, when Ted Stepien owned the Cleveland Cavs. His moves were so stupid he was forced to sell the team, after which the league stepped in and awarded the new owners extra draft picks to compensate for Ted's idiocy. The basis for his stupidity was his belief that white people would be more interested in the team if he had all white players. As you can imagine, this is not a winning strategy in the NBA.

In response to Stepien's idiocy, the league stepped in with two new rules. First, any trades by the Cavs would have to be approved by the league before they could be completed. Second, the rule still known as the Stepien rule, no team can trade its' first round draft pick in consecutive seasons. It is already possible for Bernie to seize control of abandoned and grossly mismanaged teams. Maybe there could be some sort of trigger for this if a player makes too many moves or dumps too much salary?

Did we not have a Kriff theme league some time in the past in which everybody at designated intervals had to dump a certain amount of salary?

Chief, it's been a while.
I guess the team that comes to mind is Bird, McHale, Ainge with Walton and Wedman off the bench.
The best thing about Kriffs current team is that his top 5 players are outfielders.
So Snider sits on the bench vs. righties
Mantle, Stargell and Shoeless all sit vs. lefties

Yes, that Celtics team was very white, but they did have Robert Parrish, Tiny Archibald, Cedrick Maxwell, etc. Their 1976 team was much more white than that . Check the roster.

I think the issue is that the motivation was something other than to win, or even to compete as well as one could.

Ive only heard stories about kriff, but I can tell you hes not alone in doing things like keeping players on the bench while not filling gaping holes in a lineup.
Case in point:
One current league- where my own team is wretched- has another manager who Ive tried a couple of times to speak with b/c he has a lefty dominated team in a righty stadium- Im trying very nicely to explain to him that if he made a swap for some rh bats, hed do better.

So far no response- other than declining trades for players including- Dimaggio, Beckwith, Suttles, Medwick...
Hes got guys like Gehrig, E. Matthews in Wrigley 59 and few good righty bats.
Hell, how bout just an acknowldgement that he comprehends some common language.

LMAO-
Likely the case.
Perhaps if I try a series of short and long grunts?

His name has become a verb.

It's 100% against the rules. It's not a case of managerial idiocy. It's sabotage to the other paying players and until there is firm rules enforcement, it will continue.
