Assumptions of Lefty/Righty splits?

I've seen the estimate posted here and elsewhere on Strat analysis sites that the assumed Righty/Lefty pitcher split is about 70-30 in most leagues. That seems accurate.

What is the assumed split between the amount of batters that pitchers face from each side? It [i:48cb1b52a2]appears[/i:48cb1b52a2] to be about 50%, or skewed SLIGHTLY towards pitchers facing more batters from the LEFT side, but does anyone have any intelligence on that?

not sure what you are asking...once a league is formed it is simple to determine the innings estimated per side.

Maybe in terms of evaluating a player in general? I would just note "it depends" and also--the way the card was constructed (ie what it was normed to reproduce) makes a difference, but that is easily recognizable on the card.

For example, if Gil Hodges faced nothing but lefties, he would be an undervalued card...by the percentage of righties the card was normed to as viewed on the card. He would over-produce his stats.

The 3 columns each side are statistically representative of the schedule and competition that team and that lineup faced.

Equivalently but said another way, if I see a strong 6R hitter card normed to only face 50% righties...and I'm in a league with 80% righties, that player will be a value.

Thanks for your response.

What I was asking was a hitter ratio "thumbnail" estimate akin to the 70-30 righty to lefty ratio of pitchers. I've found this accurate. It might be "50-50," or 60-40 righty to lefty or 60-40 lefty to righty.

Just asking if anyone has figured this, or uses it as a guide (and yes, I know it varies also according to the ballparks being used.)

Artie... spend a few leagues counting up the batters anticipated to face each side of your SP's in your division and you will get a fairly close representation of what you are looking for. I do this anyway to determine if I need to make an adjustment or two to my rotation. It can vary GREATLY however in an individual league.

My best estimation is that RP will face about 60% LH batters and LP will fave about 70% RH hitters.

There are many more LH hitters that you will see a cheap platoon with as opposed to RH hitters.
