Never quite understood good lead, no lead, mo lead, just plain caught...

Here with Rickey (AAA) *2-9/- (18-16) with a +1 sp and a -1 C = 0 what happened that got him thrown out twice?

18-16 becomes 16-12 if held, safe to say he was held (held is a -2/-4 modifier)

So he's 16 if he rolls a 2-9 and gets a good lead, he's a 12 if he rolls a 10-12 and doesn't.

If he is running without getting a good lead it's reasonable that he got caught 2 out of 3 in a small sample size.

What's his numbers on the season so far in stealing / caught stealing?

Do you have him set to steal more? Do you have the team set to very aggressive base stealing?

Here's a link to the super advanced rules, look at section 23 -

How are runners being held or not determined?

Any CS's stealing 3rd? Or all 2nd so far?

Normal team stealing and not clicking steal more usually means HAL will steal with a 12 or higher depending on the number of outs (0 or 1), a higher threshold with 2 outs.

10 out of 17 is 58%, which is close to a 12 (60%). So he's probably running without getting a lead. The AAA is misleading. In the basic game that would be 19-17.

Bernie didn't give access to that Super Hal manager setting, the default if I remember right is a top number of 13 or higher. But I need to check to be sure when I get home.

I've been in CDROM play by email leagues using ALL of the Super Hal settings, a lot of the frustrations that are brought up with HAL go away if you really get into the details of setting him up.

But it is overkill for the casual player and I totally understand why Bernie drew the line where he did in terms of Super Hal access.

Just to give you a taste of the Super Hal settings available, I have screen captures towards the bottom of this link that will give you a better idea.

I think HAL will always hold a runner on first who is * rated regardless of steal ratings. That is one reason I like such players even if I have them set to never steal. Not at all sure on non * runners what HAL bases decision on.

Nev, once you get this [i:a9f90ba410]one[/i:a9f90ba410] point straight, you're going to be a pretty fair Strat player.

Hang in there! Don't give up!

(All kidding aside, in a similar way, I play pretty good Continuous Pool, and whenever I play 8-Ball with someone, I can never quite get the rules straight. So there I am running the table on a bar table, and I would ask "Now what happens if I accidentally pocket one of my opponent's balls?")
