He may be "colorful" and "eccentric" ...

[b:72409cfed1]Former Red Sox third baseman Wade Boggs, in an interview with the Dennis & Callahan show...

"You have a delusional drug addict who let not only his family down, but his team, the city of Boston, Red Sox Nation when it counted most. Now he wants the good people of Boston to go out and spend money on this garbage to support his habit. I find that extremely amusing."

Boyd, in his interview on the D&C show last week, said that Boggs had learned the racial epithets from his father. Boggs -- who said that he got along with Boyd "extremely well" when the two were teammates -- rebutted the claim.

"What upsets me the most is that my father, who at the age of 16, did more for this country on Guadalcanal than Boyd will ever do in his lifetime, you’re sitting there and calling me something that in today’s society is so hurtful to so many people, and you have to sell your garbage to people with things like that in it, and call me, ruin my reputation and character, through something like that?" Boggs asked. "I have never, ever in my history of being alive on this planet, 53 years, never, ever said that in the clubhouse. You can take Jim Rice and Don Baylor and Steve Henderson and everybody, ask them and ask anybody on that team if I ever did. Absolutely not. It infuriates me to have this alleged nonsense brought up, and to be put in print, to ruin my character. It hurts me to the core. ... For someone to be labeled one of those words is extreme character assassination."

"Obviously there is something very, very wrong with [Boyd]. I guarantee you, if we saw him now, him and [Boyd's wife] Karen, he would say, ‘I didn’t know I said it,’ or, ‘I don’t remember saying it,’ or anything like that. That’s what he does," he continued. "We just assumed people would consider the source and we didn’t want to comment about it. But you can’t just let something like that go."[/b:72409cfed1]

There is wisdom there: "consider the source"
Media should never even have given beer can Boyd an outlet.

[quote:0251353d04="nevdully's"]he could be wrong...the fact that he can't articulate his thoughts well has no bearing on right or wrong[/quote:0251353d04]

The fact he cannot articulate them means he hasn't stated a coherent thought so it is moot.

My statement above could be wrong...or right...or then again...it could be nonsense and impossible to ascertain.

Sorry to be blunt about it; but think thats waaay off.

IMO;
Hes talking about MLB, commercialism, its effect on the game and its effect on black players or the lack thereof specifically- and the justice system in the US.
Generally speaking, it takes some intelligence to put that forth- Im not debating here weather he is right or not.[/quote:a1bcc86d57]

Just as bluntly, it takes some intelligence to convey a message effectively. He ain't done it. Clearly.[/quote:a1bcc86d57]

As a friend of mine said to me just an hour ago: You have to be able to speak metaphorically to understand whats being said.

WINNER! WINNER! WINNER!

Its this same ignorant pre-judged thought process that allowed little boys with vivid imaginations to continue to be raped for years by our holier than thou church.

and we all know any and all drunk girls out at night aren't raped they were asking for it.

why would we blindly believe that everything Boggs said is the truth?

I understood what Boyd said no matter how he said it.
Im not even claiming hes right- I have NO clue.

and TBH- what Boggs said is:
"I never used the 'N' word in the clubhouse, never"

But what about on the team bus, dinner, barbecue, home etc...?
There is just as much for me to question on what Boggs said.
Why are we so ready to believe him?
Because his father is a veteran?
or maybe its something else?

Dont you remember Boggs lied about having an affair on the road- how come that doesnt mean hes lying here too?

Unlike the rise of spring, constrained only by the ephemeral bursts of lessening burdens placed on it by its environment, Beer can Boyd has achieved the antithesis of ascent. The rock, as spoken, is a rock after all. Whether the rock is a metaphor for anything else doesn't change the fact that BCB is a rock.

Metaphorically speaking.

Really.

I hope the inference wasn't that BCB can speak intelligently only to those of equal intellect, like Harry Potter and Snakes...or maybe RainMan and himself.

Unknown.

Hmmm...except his comments are intelligible.

Then again, I haven't achieved metaphorisis, so therefore I just don't get it.

mac-

think about what you are saying.

Articulate people are telling the truth.
Inarticulate people are lying.

We're arguing over the nonsensical comments of someone, regardless of his background or his articulation.

We don't know what the hell he is saying. We're not talking about a profound sonnet from Shakespeare.

Although, if Wade Boggs said the things Beer Can said--I wonder what the reaction would be. Hmmm...actually I don't wonder at all. At all.

And I can appreciate that his Father was a veteran. He served his country well I'm sure, killing all them gooks, or chinks, or whoever else...Is it that soldiers are never racists or we can't hold em accountable once they serve...die you commy bastard! I mean the dots we try to connect in the name of not being called a racist are ridiculous!

I can't know what its like to be black but the conclusions we choose to jump to and believe scream racism... Salt diplomatically says "its subtle" I'm sure its not so subtle to a black man.
