Historically, the league used a double randomizer run to establish the retirement and addition of letter groupings. That's what you are seeing for retirement - the removal of a letter group that is currently in play.

Based on the constitution, an existing letter group is 'retired' each season, and a new letter grouping is added from the pool of those groupings yet to be used. In our case the number of unused player groupings had dwindled down to a few, and then to only one remaining group - those that were inserted for season 25. Based on the existing rules those letters come in automatically.

Hope that made sense. Its one of the reasons to do a fresh start after this season.

Guys....

Looking things over, I realize that I will likely be changing parks to better suit what I am inheriting from Modmark.... as well as trying to alter the roster where I can.

Before I make any decisions, I am wondering what the likelihood of some sort of reset in the player pool (available letters) is in the relatively near future... I saw some discussion of this possibility not too long ago in this thread.

Just trying to get a better feel for things before I make any major decisions.

THANKS!!!

It looks as though we'll be starting from scratch after this season. What I'd like to see is that all players be made available for the first season. Then start retiring players.

Andrew's correct that the plan is to reboot after this season because we've exhausted the addition of new letter groupings.

I'm not in favor of using the whole pool and then retiring players, because then there's nothing new each season, only fewer options from which to choose.

The way I had designed the league could certainly be altered (or scrapped altogether), but the concept of adding new players each season was to provide a change to pool so that we're not drawing from the same old boring set season-in and season-out.

If anything, I would advocate for a different breakdown of groupings: maybe one that mixes hitters and pitchers or one in which the retirement and addition alters the financial landscape (e.g., grouping by $ amounts).
