I like 1959 McMahon for RP .94mil.

Not extremely out of balance and very slim chance of any EB hits v righties.

Frankly I think his 1957 card is underrated at 2.76mil.

SP= Any .5M pure SP can be useful if you want a 5th starter who will NEVER pitch.

SP/RP=I hesitate to mention him, but Ed Farmer at .5M is a good relief specialist vs RHB and can also be used as a starter to replace a 2nd-line LHP vs pure-righty lineups.

RP= Sambito at .5M seems like a good anti-lefty specialist for the $$, and others must think so, since I've never been able to draft him.

OVERALL=There are a bunch of guys like McMahon (.94) and Eells (.93M), plus Duren, Clear, etc. who can be effective. Often these are low-hit, high walk guys, and they can be either good or bad depending on the rolls HAL gives you. I've seen ERA's range from below 3.00 to above 6.00. It's also a good level to experiment with specialists like Reniff (.89M 5R) or Hassler (.88M 8L). Be sure to use appropriate "avoid" and "quick hook" settings.

That's good to hear. I drafted him as a mop-up guy for my recent and first ever ATG team simply because he was my favorite player growing up. (Does anyone else ever do that?)

I've done it, many probably have, but drafting with your heart is something you will learn to avoid as you play ATG more & more. Unless of course your fav players are Musial, Stearnes, Mantle, Speaker etc.

If you fav players are the likes of Gant, Plunk, Baerga, Vizquel you're probably not going to fair to well by drafting with your heart.

Rick Wise is killing lineups slanted toward the R currently for me 36.2 ip 1.97 era and a 1.04 whip as a spot starter and reliever
