I'll be away for the next couple of days but will start a thread when I get back to see if there's interest in this them. Would the Murph be the right alternate park--seems more or less the exact opposite of Royals?

If anyone thinks they might want to sign up they could note it below.

Good choice

Murph is almost diametrically opposed to Royals. Another possibility is four BP's, one rep pf each ball park in each division, Royals-Murph; Fenway-Tiger.

There are a lot of theme leagues forming at the moment, so I think I'll put this idea on the back burner and roll it out a little later when there's less competition.

If I can get some of my teams to end, I would be interested in something like that. Sykes might be interested if he could make sure he gets KC.

Vets & BP effects

Postby RickRanger » Sat Apr 01, 2006 9:42 pm

I'm a vet. Been playing strat since the 60's. In these SN leagues, I started out immediately by going with small parks and drafting hitters with lots of BP(#) HR's and pitchers who don't give them up. It's still working for me in the 80's leagues -- I've won 6 championships in, I think, 11 or 12 tries. It also worked in ATG I -- I had great luck with the Polo Grounds. But it's not working too well in ATG 2 anymore. There are so many power hitters in ATG 2 that every team has it's share. I'm doing much better in ATG 2 at the other extreme -- Giffith stadium and line-drive hitters who can run and field and pitchers with low WHIP -- no biggie if they have BP # homers. Small ball seems to work best in ATG 2 right now.

About 75% of my teams, in back to the 80's, are played in parks that are below neutral for base hits and right at neutral (9 or 10) for the long ball. I typically go for great defense, power and bargain pitching. Sometimes it works and sometimes I throw out a real stinker.

I've only played one season of ATGII but I agree that it's easier to go the pitching route in that game. Whereas Clemens is arguably the only consistently dominant *SP in the 80's, there are plenty of them in ATGII. So it's a lot easier to dominate with pitching in ATGII.

And I've been wondering, Abner, why it is you favor the neutral parks. Does it give a bit of protection to your cheap SPs?

OL you are correct. I primarily choose the neutral long ball parks and pitchers parks for hits to protect the bargain pitching I go with. I don't put as much emphasis on OBP guys as the good managers (which is why I have more than my share of stinker teams), so it usually does not impact my offense much to go with the pitchers based singles parks and the 9-10 HR effect is fine for the type of power guys I try to get.
