Live draft...why not?

I dropped the ball on my last pick - didn't have my proxies set - Sorry

I picked Fulton - I really didn't have a stadium in mind during the draft - was going to leave it as my last pick, anyways. Hopefully it doesn't cause any problems.

DRAFT SUMMARY...

Postby Jimmy_C » Mon Mar 06, 2006 12:50 pm

"War is Hell", but how do you describe this draft?

The draft started out slowly while we were mobilizing 12 managers. Things took a turn for the worse when suddenly pfc Fatty went AWOL. Before the MP's were sent out, pfc Fatty suddenly re-appeared. "Sorry guys...there was an all-you-can-eat buffet at a diner down the road...and well...you know...they don't throw you out". This response was understandable and acceptable to the CO. Pvt Fatty was never allowed off-base again.

Just like that, names were starting to be drafted into the 12 different units. A border conflict was put down immediately when Pfc Seanreflex grabbed Fenway Park from another manager. "Snooze you lose" was offerred by pfc Reflex as an explanation and the conflict never got started.

Some news releases appeared for pfc Sempers team about marketing manager Bill Veeck joining the front office. "When you have a team that looks like mine, ya gotta do something to get the fans into the stadium" said pfc Semper.

Pfc Bj was found sleeping on duty. It appears that he fell victim to the notorious "sleeping chair" when he should have been drafting. "No really..I sat right down in this thing...and...ZZZZZZzzzzzz".

Pfc Visick/Socalchiro (whose name is murder to get on those little uniform name tags the corps gives you) took some heavy fire from his 2-year old. "I was not prepared for the ordinance this 2-year old could drop" was Pfc Visick/Socalchiro's response. "It was murder out there...I'm lucky to survive at all". Fortunately no man was left behind and Pfc Visick/Socalchiro re-joined the rest of the platoon.

Another border skirmish was put down but may still smoldering when the CO grabbed the keys to Tiger Stadium. Pfc Yountfan was off duty writing music when suddenly the blast hit. "I couldn't believe it...it happened so fast" was his response. The CO says he hears that remark from his wife all the time.

Finally, pfc Fletchgriswold forgot to pick a stadium. "I don't know what I was thinking...I've been busy planning a vacation to Wally World and it just got past me" was the response.

So that's it men...from this point on you will be on your own. Remember...all is fair in love and war and strato.

Nice job Jimmy.

I also caught some shrapnel last night when I tried to access the site to see how my team looked.

Mrs. socalchiro/visick/Tokyo Rose was hurling some serious salvos.

I need some R&R ASAP.

The waiver wire went off just like planned .... get very few players off your card and then get first pick in the waiver wire (when you can't attend).

Isn't that suppose to happen only in the auto leagues?

In other news, I dropped Pedro G only to see him hit 3 HRs in 6 games for his new team. Of course, he hit 0 HRs for me in 15 games and playing at Riverfront.

I also hire Roger Clemens on the wild guess that he didn't have his worse card. Well, I guessed wrong (he got hurt) and got his 1.22 E (18 win) year card. Of course, I dropped an underperforming Drabek (probably year 5 given his poor vs. LH OBA) and a promising Sanderson card.

AHHHHHHHH

Well, I made it to the Caymans today to only find that I dropped Andujar late last night instead of Reuss.

Of course, Andujar pitches a half decent outing and Reuss gets treated like the 1927 New York Yankees batting practice pitcher.

With my luck, Reuss is the stud, Morris is the dud, and Andujar never gets another win before the year is out.

Ironically, I went 2-1 for the first time in any opening season. I usually go 4-11 or something worse. So, when my team heads south again - I'll feel right at home.

We'll see if my gamble on grabbing Rose / Greenwell / Easler / Oliver produces anything besides a bad need for platooning.

Semper...your team is kicking butt!! What does it mean when a manager goes out of the country for the week, and the team does great? :D

My pitching staff looks like it's headed to the toilet fast...I can't even figure out how to complain, because I personally selected each of them in the live draft. Yikes!!

Back from the Caymans

League is pretty damn quiet these days

Everyone can't be looking for the HBPs!

I'm still amazed about Stieb and Reuss. I have four leagues under my belt and this is the only league were both these players are still playing.

In the other leagues, I recall both being available for fish bait or sucking wind.

Hey Semper...welcome back! Now please...PUHLEEEZE start managing your team again...it's tough seeing you at the top of the division. :D

I'm going to give Reuss a start tonight as a welcome home gift...HAL hasn't rushed him into games from the pen, so this oughta be good.
