2005 nickel and dime starters

2005 nickel and dime starters

Postby ArtemusRex » Wed Mar 29, 2006 7:10 am

I know this question is a little out of Vogue but I joined my first 2005 league when they were half price and it will probably be my last as I will almost exclusively play 2001 and 2006. But a few weeks into this league and I find myself searcing for starters under 1.5mil. Anyone have any advice?

I'm hovering around .500 and have a pretty good one-two punch in Curt Schilling and Pedro Martinez. I was trying to keep a 4 man rotation but that means the other two would get the extra starts as well. I've since dumped my three and four and picked up Russ Ortiz as my number 3. He's had a couple of rough outings to start but I'm pretty confident he'll turn around. Number 4 and 5 are currently David Wells and Estaban Loiza. Wells looks good so far but I think I would have had better results with Estaban the guitar player than the Loiza that played for the Yankees in the 2005 card set.

Now, I do have that Bond guy on my team and he's doing well, very well in fact but not 16mil contract well. Cutting him would lose over 4 mil and there is literally no one worth picking up in the starters over 6 mil. The other hitting free agents are pretty much picked throught so I might as well keep him. Here's a link to my team. Any suggestions.

2005 SP's that have worked well for me:

Weaver (vs. rh hitting teams)
Mulder
Ohka
Bonderman (my favorite)
Robertson / Willis (vs. lh hitting teams)
Washburn
Haren (pitcher's parks)
Kevin Brown (hitting parks)
Halama (vs. lh's)
Beckett (vs. rh's)

Beckett, Sosa, Lima, Capuano, Contreras, Patterson...all depending on the park...

Capuano in Petco. I was very pleased with his performance.

I like Bonderman as well. Have had only 1 bad year from when I used. I have also had decent success from Halama. Tried Brown again and again he just didn't do it for me, As a matter of fact he usually beat me when I played against him. He must not like me :? .

Brown and Haren (a monster vs. LH) have both done a decent job for me, and have been a part of succesful rotations (mostly on hitting teams, however)...but I think they are both good bottom-of-the-rotation values...

don't ever think of getting rid of Bonds...you will never see another card like that...a .609 OBP?...are you kidding me?...

he'll come around, no worries about that...just make sure you've got a couple of clutch, non-DP sluggers behind him...he'll be on base 60% of the time, provided he doesn't go into a HR trot...also think of high OBP guys in front of him...Quinlan, Walker and Snow are good table setters (all .400+ OBP)...with the proper hitters in front and behind him, he might score and drive in 200 runs...he had NINETY TWO HRs for me once...

you might try rubbing a little flax seed oil on your computer monitor...that seems to help...

You got to shoot up his card--Then he'll start being productive.. If not dress him up like Paula Abdul and let him be a cheerleader...He is better suited for that anyway without his miracle drug..DUMP HIM just because he is YA (Your Asshole)
