Why does everyone hate him so? Is he considered overpriced?

PS If you hate him because of the well deserved mockery he got on the Cheap Seats episode, then I forgive you

he often does not seem to play up to his card. Carter seems to be a better value and usually performs better than Bench, at least in ATG II

I like Bench in a hitters park. I have not had any problems with injuries. Adding up both sides of his card, Bench has 22.85 hrs. And you pay big money for those HRs. In Griffith though, Bench has only 8.25 Hrs. You lose almost 2/3 of his value.

Johnny Bench in Fenway. No pitchers over 6 million allowed.

.321 avg 41 DO 45 HR 137 RBI

In an all Baker field league

.265 avg 41 DO 38 HR 126 RBI

I have Bench platooning with Lollar vs LHP . Its a theme league , I move Lollar to 1st and Bench catches . Vs. RHP Lollar catches and Scott is at 1st .Bench spent the 1st 3 weeks on and off the ir . So if I platoon him to his strength its good enough .

I don't think anyone hates him.....but his problem is

1) you pay a premium for the 1 (-4) rating.....where you can get guys like Parrish for 1/3 the price and have almost as good D

2) his card just is not that great for the $$....can go much cheaper and get as much production

3) ij2....you have to be GREAT for alot of people to go with an injury prone player, and unfortunately, his card is not GREAT.

He was my HERO growing up, read all his books, had all his cards, LOVED the BIG RED MACHINE!! But with 6 atg teams and 15 atg2 teams, I only drafted him once...just better values out there imo.....

I think everyone should stay far away from him :!: 30+ doubles, 30+ HR's, 100+ ribbies in any park, great D, can run, plays different positions.....yea there are a bunch of other catchers out there that can that!
