relief pitcher settings...

relief pitcher settings...

Postby bomp helium » Thu Mar 30, 2006 5:42 am

I have a question about this setting...like, uh, what exactly does it mean?...if you have set RP on "conservative", what does that mean?...I'm hoping that means that the starter will be given every chance to gobble up innings, with the bullpen coming in at that point and behaving normally (if HAL is capable of such behavior)...

but I have also read that "conservative" might mean that once that releiver enters, he too will be left in the game longer...

I'm hoping "conservative" means the starter will be kept in longer, but not neccesarily each subsequent reliever...

does anyone have any thoughts on this?

I am no expert, but my understanding has always been that if you put your manager setting to conservative, that simply means that HAL will leave your starter in a little longer. I do not understand it to effect your rp's status as such. I think that is supposedly determined by your individual settings.

I am wondering the same thing (see "Bullpen Question" thread). I don't have any satisfactory conclusion, but in my (limited) experience, it seems that if it's set on "conservative" for example, your starters will stay in longer.

I agree, for as long as this game has been going on (several years) I have always set my relief to conservative and my starters go longer than most any other team in the league.

what worries me is that people have said that the setting not only affects starters, but RPs as well...so that while HAL will leave the starter in longer (I agree that this happens) he will also leave the RP in longer (perhaps too long)...

I often put my money in solid starters and closer and perhaps cheat the bullpen. I make up for this by setting RP to conservative, hoping HAL will let the starter chew up innings. But it worries me that this setting will also affect the way HAL handles the bullpen...

thanks for the input...anyone else have any thoughts?...
