NLD 13 Draft thread

James,

It's not the one or two 3s that kill you, it is others you might be sporting in highly active locations that do you dirty.

Heck, Brett Myers might be one of your better fielding players with his Mark Belanger like 2e13 .

I have no issues with Jeff Kent or his glove. Jeff spent a few years in Cleveland so he must be a great guy!

Joe,

Sexson and Matsui want to send Barry Zito an invite to the Cleveland hitting clinic.

You may well consider having Papi toss a few innings just like Jose Canseco did in the 90s. :D

Semper,

I'm confused, why would Zito want to go to a hitting clinic? :?: Isn't this a DH league?? ;)

United is going with pitching, defense and speed...I haven't looked carefully at the lineup, but it will look something like this:

S Winn LF 2 (B 1-16)
S Rollins SS 2 (AA 1-17)
L Helton 1B 1 (D 1-12)
R Glaus 3b 3 (D 1-11)
R Gomes DH (B 1-14)
L Langenhaus RF 2 (E 1-15)
????????????? C
R Taveres CF 2 (A 1-17)
S Kennedy 2B 1 (A 1-13)

R Clemens
R Colon
L Beuhrle
R Oswalt

CL Street

Looks like I'll have to try to win the 2 -1, 3-2 games...

Joe,

My guys merely want Barry to toss the ball at the party seeing you didn't have too many other starters to choose from on your team.

Will Papi find his way into the rotation?

PETCO ME!

Postby Semper Gumby » Fri Mar 31, 2006 4:25 pm

The Cleveland franchise will call the roomy confines of [b:0e7f2f6abf][color=blue:0e7f2f6abf]PETCO PARK [/color:0e7f2f6abf][/b:0e7f2f6abf] its home for the return season.

[quote:0e7f2f6abf]Good move. I'm berry happy that all da long ball hitters will enjoy facing me, Pevee, Prior, and Harlem in my new house. Oh, and Cliff Leezs too.

Bring your long coats to my park bezecause you's going to get chilly from all dat wind from you bats.

$100m Junk

Postby Semper Gumby » Fri Mar 31, 2006 4:40 pm

My initial reaction to $100m league concept (my first time in the salary range).

[b:ab779eca37]I'm no fan of it. [/b:ab779eca37]

I cheer for a middle market team (Indians - maybe a small market team budget) so I probably have a skewed sense of salaries / budgets.

Frankly, I'd rather play with player usage restrictions (more realistic) than sporting $1.5m bench players at every position. As one who tried several injury prone teams in 2003, I am more than open to carrying a little salary on the bench.

If anything, I sense the outcome is now more on dice (if everyone has a nuke, why build a bomb shelter) than pulling together some synergies between raw OBP and clutch hits.

Notwithstanding the drafting portion of picking pricey players, I didn't see much to the draft before the first eight (8) rounds. While my draft didn't set any new trends in team composition, I would have enjoyed finding those few $2m hitters that make the difference in a season, e.g., Pedro Feliz.

[b:ab779eca37]I'm not sure how this concept did for the early NLD 2004 seasons but I may pass on it the next time. [/b:ab779eca37]

tough decision here, but decided to take the overpriced, but best available pitcher, Scott Baker. Someone please tell me that they were going to take him.
