NLD 13 Draft thread

Semper,

I agree with you about the 100 mil. Much less strategy and more "draft the best available player."

Maybe the last few rounds will have more of that, but, for me, it will be too little, too late.

Baker

Postby Semper Gumby » Fri Mar 31, 2006 4:56 pm

Joe,

I listed [b:da72899f17]Baker [/b:da72899f17]as one of the top 20 (not by $$$ since it didn't matter in this league) for a low diamond park.

As for the $100m league, it feels like playing in the ATG. Everyone has the potential to combine a few players into one Babe Ruth.

I've focused my TSN spending on the 80s format. I love it. Besides my first team getting smacked by Penn's team, I'm occupied for most of the season.

In the 80s, the strategy is good ball park and a nice mix of cheap players that you can cull out and keep.

Here?

I'd never draft Sexson in a $80m league. I'm not sure why I did it here but I couldn't see spending that money on Giambi to:

(1) Walk
(2) Be a 15 game injury candidate
(3) Play ZERO positions

That strikes me as wasteful.

The only way I can compete in this league against the Hafner's is via PETCO

I must hope that:

[list:da72899f17]Pedro
Peavy
Prior
Haren
Lee (to some regards)[/list:u:da72899f17]

Stike out early and often. Otherwise, I need to push the fence way back and raise the bases some more.

I have had great early success with cliff lee in petco. granted he is facing about 70% RHB.

Baker

Postby superflymacdaddyjuice » Fri Mar 31, 2006 6:21 pm

Joe,

Baker looks like money to me. I would have taken him .

All,

While i voted for the 100 million cap it was primarily to get a look at some of these players that would do nothing but collect dust . After my draft, I agree with Semper. I am totally against it! ;). Jokes aside, i look forward to an 80 mill or even a 60 mill draft with you guys. At this rate i dont even think i will spend my entire wad!

I think that i would not have traded down if i had it to do over again. I was really gambling on getting jeter or Papi @ pick # 9 and it just did not work out. Overall I do not think my sqaud is terrible but I am positive there were some better drafts than mine out there.

Smokey, thanks! I feel better now, 8) I went back and forth on that pick.

Guess we're waiting for Beach to get back from... the beach! :P

Joe I only took Helling over Baker because:

1 He had no BPHR's
2 He was an S6 and Baker an S5 and I already have one S5 for a starter.

Man we are REALLY crawlin' today.

Semp, I only did the 100mil cause I'd seen SO many comments/complaints that the salaries were better suited. We normally do 80mil so we'll go back.

Uh Niners, I hate to break this to you, but Helling can't start. There are a couple of guys like that. Penn's site didn't adjust for the changes that TSN made.

The three involved are:

Heilman
Helling
Carasco

Hopefully Hawk and Smokee know that.

$100m Junk PART II

Postby Semper Gumby » Fri Mar 31, 2006 7:48 pm

I'm sure this season will be zippy with balls flying every which way. To add any sense to the madness this season, I went early on the park just to keep my game scores from being part of the NFL section of the sports pages.

If anything, I hope that PETCO tames the travelling 1927 NLD Yankees. Otherwise, it will get ugly and fast.

What makes this season less enjoyable is despite having the progressive waiver penalty, I doubt we'll see much add / drop action. Why should you?

For Sexson's salary alone, I could almost field a second team myself.

Oddly, I have $35m to spend on another 13 players - I don't think I could find 13 part-time players that I'd want HAL to manage for me as HAL can't manage the ones in the $80m league well enough.
