Terrible record

Terrible record

Postby bullmcintosh » Fri Mar 31, 2006 8:05 pm

Again, I am somewhat of a rookie. This team finished about 30 games out. What have I been doing wrong. I have played almost a thousand games and am under .500. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

It would be nice if SOM left the records of players dropped during the season with the teams. It is hard to kibitz after the fact when they are deleted. It looks to me like there was a right fielder, first baseman and a starter now deleted.

I'm stunned that Haas hit over .300 in 631 ABs, with 45 2Bs, 10 HRs, and who knows how many 3Bs, and somehow managed to score only 59 runs. Was your third base coach under instructions to tackle him whenever he made a move toward the plate?

Perhaps your lineups weren't maximizing what production you were getting out of these guys.

Part of your problem was a twitchy add/drop finger. Your end of the year roster salary total was a little over $72M. Hard to compete with $80M teams at that level.
Just one man's opinions:
* SP is weak. An ace, with Pollett as a #2, would have looked nice.
* Corner OF defense leaves a lot to desired.
* Overall team speed & OBP could be improved.
* Hornsby's a great player, but a cheaper 2b would have allowed you to buttress your other weak spots.

Post your next squad here & folks more expert than me can assist you.

Study other teams to get ideas on what works and what doesn't -- through links here, through the record books, through leagues you are in.

Once a season starts, hook up the add/drop button to a generator that will give you a nasty shock. Since I started playing a lot, I probably average an in-season free-agent move maybe once every 100 teams (in other words -- NEVER). Give your plan a chance to run a season.

Improve your on-base percentage.

Run your players through diamonddope.com to get ideas to help with lineups.

Have fun. :D
