Getting the most out of Heilman

Getting the most out of Heilman

Postby The Biomechanical Man » Fri Mar 31, 2006 11:13 pm

2006 Heilman looks like a good value if you can get lots of quality innings out of him. Anyone have any thoughts had to get the most from him?

Here is my team that I am trying him on: Horace Mann Lions.

I'm thinking of setting him to "set-up" vs. L and R, and leaving the "closer" slots blank. Also, I'll check "slow hook" for him.

Your thoughts on Heilman on my team, or in general?

I've got Heilman setting up both ways on this Coors team...
Slow Hook.

Anyone else?

After 15 games, I have had my mop up guy pitch 1.2 innings, a cheap .50 pitcher pitch 1, my other 3 RP's, including my set up man (Hernandez), have yet to pitch, and Heilmann has gone 15 innings. My settings:

Relief-Conservative
Closer-Maximize
Set Up vs RH-Hernandez
Set Up vs LH-Heilmann
Closer both ways-Heilmann

Worked for me so far.

My sense is that HAL loves Heilman. So far this is not a great team, but here is how HAL uses him in the context of these cheapies:

1. Just when you'd hope he leaves Heilman in to pitch from the 7th to the 12 (yes, 5 innings), HAL leaves him in.

2. Just when you'd hope he'd leave him in during a tight games as closer, HAL does it.

3. In a tight game where it's tied, or even down by two runs and you'd hope HAL to try and keep it close, he brings in Heilman and stays with him.

Slow hook of course. I'm not expecting a 2.10 ERA as much as I'm hoping to get a 3.00, and 150+ innings. That's what I call getting your money's worth.

Cool. I'm excited now about using Heilman.

By the way, Jerlins, here is how to post your team link. Click on statistics for your league. Right-click on your team's name. Choose "copy shortcut." Make a post here and click the "URL" button above your post box. Then right-click the mouse and choose "paste." The click the URL button once again. Give it a try, I'm sure you can do it. :)

For example, here's my team:

I have him as set up and closer both ways, avoid before 7th, slow hook.
