Interest in an 80s invitational in the near future?

Postby 1st Command Commando » Sat Apr 01, 2006 4:27 pm

The first theme league I tried was kind of like a Jaser D open, with 48 managers competing ala March Madness. I think Mav was the architect. I was eliminated in the first round, when only four total managers were eliminated. Is it about time to do an invitational for the 80s? Top ??? in each round advanced (depends upon how many teams signed up) four total rounds, managers had to pick one of four parks and not repeat use of the park in later rounds. I'll even be a sponsor and write a check (not to exceed $50) to the overall winner, but I don't have the time to run the tourney. No experience required to be a part of the tourney, but it would be nice to see around 48-64 managers participate.
I'd say the stadiums would probably be one extreme HR, one extreme single, one extreme pitcher, and one nuetral. I'm not asking for signups right now, just gauging interest.
Thanks,
sogcomando

Sounds interesting. It also sounds more like an Open rather than an Invitational. :P

Sounds like a good idea.

One point. Why not let people just pick their own stadiums? Let the kicker be you just can't be in the same stadium twice in the tournament.

Otherwise it seems like there are 12 guys fighting over the same players and the advantage can tend to go to the lucky winner of the draft.

At least you could build around the stadium you are playing in and perhaps target different players in the draft to suit the stadium?

Perhaps the "tour" can be launched around the sametime [b:223eaa8cf1]Bernie releases 80s v2.0[/b:223eaa8cf1]

I'd toss my helmet in for that opportunity.

Welcome to the 80's MRMS! There's probably no better way to jump right on in than in one of these themes/tournaments. We had a similar one a couple of years ago that I got involved in that I had gotten in when I was new to the game too. It's a great learning experience.

Who knows? Maybe you'll be the next George Mason!
