CF

CF

Trying something very different for me . I need a CF (pre-waivers) and I've narrowed it down to several guys . Dawson , Haas, Flesch , and Crawford . Playing at Royals . My division is Huntington, Shibe29, Forbes. The league is fulll of pitchers parks (4 Forbes,2 Griffs, Stick , Dunn,Polo36)
I'm thinking I will need obp, speed , stealing, and a tad of pop . My guys are doubles and triple hitter with speed . Who would you take Dawson , Haas, Flesch , and Crawford or someone else . Mays is out there but me being 4th and looking at the teams in front of me , he'll be gone .

Dawson based on what you've said.

Which do you value more...or where do you want to hit him? OBP,stealing and "some" pop sounds like a #2 or a #6 to me. Given that, my inexperienced oppinion is Combs (bad arm) or Dom Dimaggio (less steals) would be better at #2, Combs or Dawson at #6.

Combs is my favorite, and the only downside, IMO, is his arm. Combs SLG comes from doubles and triples, Dawson from 2B and HR. In a pitchers park, take 3-5 of those HR and make them 2b, Combs might actually gain a 3-5 triples.

Haven't player with either, but I think Combs is the best solution for your team.

Combs has a potent bat, but it's best to keep away from him. CF gets a lot of dice rolls in Strat, and that weak arm will cost you a buncha runs. You rarely see teams with Combs finishing with a winning record. Dawson is a much better choice, with Haas a distant second pick.

What's the rest of your lineup look like?

Decent amount of LH/SH, Dawson by a big margain. What about LHSP in your division?

Dawson is a very underrated CF...has great D, solid arm, hits well from both sides (do not let that 4L fool you  ), runs well, cannot go down for more than 3 games....I have him right now on a Sportsman '46 team, after 147 games, he has seen 26% LHP (probably a representative average for most leagues), and is batting 313, 522 slugging,353 obp...

One of the top 4-5 CF's in the deck imho...

Here's my starters at this time . Waivers run today at 4.

C- Gibson
1st -McCormick
2nd -Doyle
3rd- Rolfe
ss- Wills
lf - Musial
cf - McCosky ( for now, terrible clutch )
rf - Medwick

I am leaning Dawson . Being 4th I know I won't get Mays but he would be the optimal pick .

Dawson, Dawson, Dawson!!! No question.

Also, I would rethink your middle infield. If you're going to have Doyle and his atrocious D at 2B, you need to get a "1" at SS.

I personally would never use Doyle as anything but a DH, but I get all nervous if I have a "2" in the field at nearly any position, and would probably collapse in fear without a "1" in the key SS, 2B and CF spots.

But that's just me...

Oh, another thing, I would rather have Dawson in CF than Mays and spread that 5 mil over the rest of my lineup and pitching staff. Especially in Royals Stadium.

But that's just me---
