Barfield, Armas or 4(0)s

Wondering what people's experiences are with these guys. Their offense is not as good as some of the second tier 4(0) hitters: Daniels, Tartabull, Greenwell, Kevin Mitchell, etc... but 2(-4) is as good fielding as youre going to get (other than "1"s).

I've never had good luck with Barfield, or Armas, but have been in leagues where others have had killer years from them.

George Bell, on the other hand, has had several absolute killer seasons for me --- 50+ HR and .300+ BA, on 3 different occasions.

I'd definitely take A) Daniels, B) Tartabull, and C) Greenwell, in that order, over Barfield or Armas any day of the week; grab Braggs, Castillo, Ron Jackson or some other .75er to platoon with Kal, that is your best solution.

I have had luck with Barfield and Armas. They can work if you are in a big HR park and have another 1 or 2 in the league. Armas can be helpful just because of the variety of positions.

If you want homers and RBIs get Armas and put some serious OBP in front of hit. Barfield can do it also, but Armas wacks the ball in a hitters park for sure.

Kirk Gibson, Kal Daniels or Tartabull?

Going to be a DH.

I'm a fool for Tartabull. I love his cards. Could legitimately slug .500 on every single card in the right ball parks and in his best years he can carry the team.

I was a fan of Kal Daniel's cards back in the 80's and I like them in this game too. I've never had the good fortune of landing his lights out card which means my experience is limited to his stinky year and his 86 card. While his 86 card is good, it just didn't impress me with his numbers at the Metrodome when I had him. Daniels only hits righties so you can't get any decent card reads on his splits to begin with. Tartabull's good years are righty favored so, it makes it easier to read as the stats roll in.

Gibson is ok but I'd still take Tartabully every single time ahead of the other two if I had the cash.

All three can be good. It depends on how you want to spend the money and if you need a LH or RH to balance your line up.

I currently have both Daniels and Greenwell on a Royals team and at game 63 both are performing very well. I'm pretty sure I have Kal's 90 season (.919 2R), which means he can hit LHP, too. Anyway, I'm playing him both ways and vs. LHP and he has a .923 OPS (and .886 overall).

Greenwell is in his 89 year, which is .812 4R. That might not seem like all that much, but platooning almost exclusively vs RHP he's posting an .877 OPS. He did get some at bats vs lefties before I got a read on the year, but if you look just at his righty splits his OPS is .973.

I think both of these guys can be great if you catch the right year. You do want to get a read on the year so you can decide whether to platoon one or both. If you have both on a team, one of them has to play in the field, but neither is too bad a leftfielder if you've got good defenders elsewhere.

None of these guys has an exclusive claim on the DH slot--there are a lot of good contenders--but they're both solid choices if you want a good lefty bat.
