How does he stack up against similar-priced relievers? (Klinger, Tincup, Nelson, etc.) And what park do you like him in?

LOVE BEGGS!

I use him in West Side Park, Sportsman, Griffith even Forbes. He is ALWAYS my #1 choice in closers.

I'll be the contrarian. He's been nothing but a major P.O.S. for me. Twice, with season ERAs over 6, once over 8, in 3 times using him - always in hitters parks, where he should be the best fit.

Beggs, J. 17 8 9 170.2 228 114 72 38 6.01 1.76
Beggs, J. 4 6 4 123.2 166 91 56 51 6.62 1.80
Beggs, J. 2 1 2 40 61 38 21 12 8.55 2.05

Only used him once in a hitters park and was not impressed. ERA over 5.00. I've seen him on other teams do quite well--might be just my bad luck.

Tom,
I love Beggs.

I have used him 3 times:

2-6, 28 saves, 57.1ip, 62h, 25er, 20bb, 20k, 3.93era, 1.43 whip in Sportsman'46

(half season - trade) 2-3, 16 saves, 27.2ip, 27h, 6er, 11bb, 10k, 1.95era, 1.37whip in Yankee'56

7-6, 28 saves (12 bs, however), 79.1ip, 79h, 33er, 39bb, 31k, 3.74era, 1.49whip in Dunn'20

I also love Tincup, but I have a disclaimer: If you want him to close, make sure there is NO other RHRP with a closer rating, HAL DOES favor the rating. The seasons where Tincup had double-digit saves, he shared the closer role with Lefferts, no closer ratings on staff. The other seasons he was shunned for nickel guys with ratings. You were there for some of these....

Tincup (during my Yankee '56 obsession):
6-3, 4sv, 107.1, 97h, 43er, 47bb, 31k, 3.61era, 1.34 whip in Yankee'56

10-8, 13sv, 115ip, 92h, 39er, 37bb, 37k, 3.05era, 1.12whip in Y'56

4-10, 11sv, 118.2ip, 130h, 53er, 41bb, 40k, 4.02era, 1.44whip in Y'56

8-5, 6sv, 105.1ip, 105h, 43er, 35bb, 39k, 3.67era, 1.33whip in Y'56

(partial season, dumped for Beggs) 0-4, 2sv, 36.1ip, 31h, 15er, 15bb, 12k, 3.72era, 1.27whip in Y'56

Beggs is on MOST of my 85+ teams. I am the manager that got that .93 ERA outta him. And, I use him in any park also.

The people that have him with 5 or 6 + ERAs, probably have a short pen. I ALWAYS have atleast 5, sometimes 6 in the bullpen.

What stadium are you wanting #'s for??

Well, I'm in a pitchers park, but playing in a bunch of Fenways and Polos. So looking for someone to hold his own everywhere. My first choice would be Lefferts.

Beggs in Dunn 85 Wins Championship team:
Beggs, J. R R2 6 4 5 78.1 65 12 28 27 1.38 1.19 1R 3.46M

Beggs in Ebbetts 53 82 Wins Barnstormers team:
Beggs, J. R R2 9 6 3 94.2 94 32 47 31 3.04 1.49 1R 3.46M

KILLER BEGGS in Dodger stadium:
Beggs, J. R R2 9 4 17 87.0 74 9 22 28 .93 1.10 1R 3.46M (that .93 is ERA!)

Beggs in Olymic:
Beggs, J. R R2 3 4 34 98.2 121 38 20 31 3.47 1.43 1R 3.46M

Beggs in Busch 87
Beggs, J. R R2 1 5 36 66.0 65 21 21 23 2.86 1.30 1R 3.46M

Beggs in Dodger again:
Beggs, J. R R2 10 7 3 107.0 108 39 38 35 3.28 1.37 1R 3.46M

Beggs in West Side Park:
Beggs, J. R R2 3 6 28 75.1 84 35 25 23 4.18 1.45 1R 3.46M

I can go on, and on, but that last one, was the worst one I found so far.

One word of caution, he CANNOT do it by himself, he needs a Hernandez or Garber with him at ALL TIMES.

Please, do not try to get him 115+IP. He can do 100 without a problem, but dont push it.
