Bought 1st '69 Team - Now I'm Scared!

Our historical single season sets

Your team is slumping, and mine is about to I'm afraid. Carl Taylor just went down for 10 games, really hurting my offense. Naturally, it happens just as I'm heading into 2 key series against the other contenders in my division. Now is when I'm really gonna pay for dropping Epstein. If I can make it through the weekend without getting swept in any series, I'll consider it a successful weekend.

Last night, first full series without Taylor, my team scored only 5 runs but still won one game, thanks to a no-hitter by Bob Moose. :D

You should check out some of the non-* SPs. There are some real bargains, IMO. I'd stack up my rotation of Maloney, Moose, Kilkenny, Selma, and Ryan against any 4-man rotation for the same money.

Dave,

I glanced at a few box scores and noticed you are playing Taylor at 1B. He as 11 errors well into the season. It appears he doesn't even have a def replacement? What the...??

When Taylor goes down, I switch Frank Robinson to 1B and slide in another outfielder from the bench.

Not the optimal situation--originally I was starting Taylor in LF and Alou was my backup/defensive replacement. After game 66, I rejiggered my team and moved Taylor to 1B.

Closing the book on the season

In 96 games for me, here are the results of Fregosi's clutch watch:

57 games at leadoff, 31 clutch situations, lost 2 hits
29 games batting 8th, 16 clutch situations, lost 3 hits
10 games at various spots, 9 clutch situations, lost 1 hit

Overall, Fregosi lost 16 points in BA and SLG and 14 points in OBP due to poor clutch performance.

The team as a whole was 53-43 following my fielding improvements (after game 66). Before that, its record was 33-33. I was 70-56 and tied for 1st place going into the home stretch of intradivision games, but not having any LH power hurt me against my division foes (I dropped Epstein as part of my defensive adjustments). I went 16-20 down the stretch.

This was my 3rd team. I learned a lot with it, and onward to victory next season. :)
