Anyone want to share their first impressions?

I'm so psyched... I think I've been priming for this since 1970, when I got my first set of Strat cards! :D

1) Glad we went with '69 instead of '61! The player pool with 24 teams still leaves some very thin positions, imagine what it would've been like with only 16 teams to draw from.

2) Load's of great SP's... throughout the salary spectrum. What a switch from '05!

3) Where's the OBP? After the top 20-30 guys, there is a serious drop off.

Initial impressions... spent only about an hour though.

1. Good high end SP
2. VERY weak RP
3. Middle infield defense is weak... makes using 3's not that much of a hindrance compared to ATG... if the offense is good. Ex... Rod Carew as a 3e25 at 2B would NEVER get used in ATG.
4. Pete Rose is WAAAAAAY overpriced.
5. Defense in general is fairly weak.
6. Loving the fact that the 69 Mets have different cards from the ATG set.
7. Thank GOD we have a great Clemente card!!! as well as Frank Robinson!

I have to admit, that I was not very enthused about this new game, UNTIL I SAW THE CARDS!!!!! Now I've already bought a 5 pack and am signed up for 3 theme leagues.

My first impressions are that you better get a good autodraft.

I think this is going to much better with live drafts. Too much luck involved in the auto. Might cause people to lose interest quickly.

I like the small player pool, myself. I think it would be really fun with live draft.

On a more personal level-- I love it! The '69 season was my first real season as a fan-- i went to the '69 All Star game at RFK. Was a big Senators fan and these guys bring back great memories.

Senators are available in the franchise theme league, Harry. You have to keep their top 20 priced players but then you can fill in with 3-8 free agents.
3 spots left so jump on in.

Defense being weak stands out the most to me. No 1's at SS. Some really poor outfielders. Fun to see some of the guys I knew when I started(1974).

Has there ever been a card with higher OBP vs. LHP the Francona?

Not Sure of $80M Cap

Postby rschwartz51 » Wed Sep 21, 2005 3:43 pm

Though I agree with the comments above, I too loved the concept of this year though I would have liked 1970 but this fine.

The comments ring loud that Harry Lime made. I drafted Horace Clarkas a top 5 2B. A $3M 2b and didn't get him. The leftovers were so bad a had to take a morphine shot to get thru.

I see the only way to set up leagues is with at least a $100M cap. At $80M it becomes so difficult to draft a McCovey that it becomes a negative to use those high priced players.

By the way, when teams like Baltimore and SF with only 20 players are over a salary cap of $80M it isn't hard to see that Theme leagues of $100M are the future.

I like 80 mil. for just that reason. It is more authentic. Every team has holes.

After the obvious lefty bats...the pickings are VERY slim for decent lefty bats.

Decent to me: Fairly even balance, 600 PA's or more etc...

I kinda disagree in that I think there is a plethora of RP talent out there.

Anyone notice the roster limitations are a little different? We can now hold a minimum of only 9 pitchers.....but our minimum roster size has increased to 24. Interesting :?
