SBDL Draft Thread

Postby Palanion » Mon Apr 10, 2006 3:46 pm

John... you got me thinking... and scouring for our old threads to see what we have done.

We did, in fact, have a rule on trading protected players:
[quote:dfa57b2154]6) One trade involving protected players is allowed per team, after announcing keeper list and before the draft.[/quote:dfa57b2154]

And a couple trades during the draft last season violated this rule. Also, another rule was
[quote:dfa57b2154]1) 7 keeper, or protected, players going into the draft and season. Owners do not have to keep exactly 7, but can not protect more than 7. [/quote:dfa57b2154]

Obviously that did change, since we then went to a 3-1-3 format last season and a 3-keeper format this season.

But there were no rules that restricted trading draft picks or drafted players. No one has traded "keepers" this preseason, so let's maintain this rule of not trading keepers.

You do have to put your keepers and drafted players on your draft card for the autodraft. After the draft, the keepers must remain on rosters through opening day, but drafted players can be cut, traded, suspended for violating the Strat drug policy... :D

I hope this clarifies the issue, and thanks for bringing it up.

Bill

P.S.
Is there interest in committing to more seasons beyond this one? Maybe we can come to some standard throughout....

So..... of course, I just realized that this discussion with John DOES in fact have immediate relevance. Frock can not be traded due to the rule. Which I think is fine, just means that geekor needs to make a new pick in place of Frock, and Frock remains with bunze0.

I'll commit to more seasons BUT make it a definite number perhaps 6 more seasons with an option to go 3 more after that AND I don't want a repeat of this season in which keeper teams were completely torn apart due to the change in the 3-1-3 rule. If I can make a suggestion for next season, lets go back to the 3-1-3 rule BUT to insure that available players will be out there, out of the 7 players that we keep, you can only keep 4 hitters and 3 pichers or 3 hitters and 4 pitchers depending on your "steal" selection. And make it mandatory that the protected players MUST stay on your roster till after Game 3, then if you want to take the 20% hit its up to you or you can try to work out a trade with another team or teams to avoid that. Also I think that we MUST KEEP the stadium we choose for all the seasons, you could give everyone one last chance to change after this season and then it STAYS PUT...Also in all fairness I benefitted from the serpentine draft but in reality it should be kept to Last to First NFL style....and one last thing as for divisions, to make it fair and so that the usual teams aren't always playing the usual teams with the same stadiums, and the teams that came close have a good shot at winning it, perhaps it could be like this
EAST
1, 4,7,10
CENTRAL
2, 5,8,11
WEST
3,6,9,12
These are just some suggestions

As much as I've enjoyed this league, I hesitate to make a big commitment to more seasons. Right now I have 10 teams to go in the 60 million 12-season league, 2 more Barnstormers, 4 *second chance* Barnstormers ... it's getting a little ridiculous. I keep telling myself: get off the damn computer and go read a good book.

(Speaking of which, anybody read "The Catcher Was a Spy," about Moe Berg? Xmas gift collecting dust on my shelf.)

So I'm kinda hoping to wean myself off my Strat addiction (fat chance with ATG 3 on the way).

I'd be willing to do this one more time after this current round, but that would be it for me. Five seems like a good number to stop.

We have no trouble commiting to multiple seasons in the future, as I have stated before I think it would be a great idea especialy if we were to standardize the rules (future discussion). Even if a few owners drop out as the seasons go by they can be replaced as we have done in the past. There is a great core of owners here and it is a privelage and a pleasure to compete with all of you!
