OK Newbie here, Does this team suck?

Missed a lot of the guys I wanted in the draft, so now I'm trying to play smallball in Comiskey with Reggie as my power.

Playing the Taylor/Cepeda platoon at 1B and the Stanley/Tovar platoon in CF.

I think the rotation bites, but everyone good was pretty much gone.

Am I doomed for humiliation against the Abnerdoubledays of the world?

Link doesn't work. Go to "league stats" page and click on your team. There should be a number at the end of the web address. Copy that link.

Sorry 'bout that. Guess you can tell I'm a first-time poster, too!

Your team needs some work IMO.

Dump Romo & Johnson and pick up a 50¢ SP who will never pitch. You have 4 *SP which will be your rotation. Wise and McGlothlin are good values. Your rotation looks fine to me.

Those 3 50¢ RP will kill you. Try to upgrade them to at least 1m RPs. You only need 5 RP including your closer. Bouton and Lyle are decent value guys under 1m too.

Taylor doesn't need to platoon at all at 1B. You will need a backup for him though as he will get injured. Cepeda costs too much for a backup however.

Dump Stanley as Tovar hits as good or better than Stanley vs RHP anyway. You can use Uhlander as your backup CF. I would platoon Mota and Brock in LF. Mota has a great offensive card and is a 2 fielder.

You need a backup 2B.

In general your backup hitters are too expensive. Unless you think they will get significant playing time they should cost less than 1m.

I am not wild about Boyer at 3B. I would almost keep Fuentes and get a cheap defensive 3B for a late inning replacement. Fuentes can really hit well. If you can't stomach his defense then I would rather dump him and Boyer and upgrade to a better 3B.

LMBombers speaks the truth.

You have a fair amount of cash tied up with players who won't or shouldn't see a lot of playing time. As a result, you have a few glaring weaknesses (bullpen especially) which will make this a very long season unless you address them.

In hindsight I had similar problems with my first team, but I didn't know it at the time. A team that I thought was decent wound up 73-89. Meanwhile, Jim McGlothlin with his $3.xx salary sat in the bullpen as my spot starter and did not pitch a single inning the entire season. What a waste. :(

By the way, full disclosure--I just noticed your team is in my division. Good luck--here's hoping you win the division and I win the wild card. Because everyone knows it's the wild card that wins the ring! :)

Okay

The .50 relievers Cepeda and Stanley are gone, and the pen is now all $1 mil or better. I thought of those other two S/R guys as long men, but I think the ones I got are better.

Not much I can do about Boyer. None of the 3B out there seems like any better value for the money, and all of the cheap guys have as bad or worse D than Tito. If I start him and Carl, my D at the corners will be TERRIBLE, but at least it's OK up the middle. I know D at 1B is not as important as the other positions, but with overall D and power seeming to be the precious commidities in this game, I'd think that the ones who have the most of them will prevail. We'll see.

Dave, I figured to get a response or 2 from my own league. I've been lurking here long enough to see that people usually don't give misleading advice. I gotta tell you, though, you outfoxed me for Sparky, Campy and Cookie, so I think ours will be a special rivalry!

Marty, I'm very, very sorry about Campy, Cookie, and Sparky.

On the other hand, I got outfoxed myself at 2B. Now I'm counting on (hoping for?) a platoon of cheapies to come through. I don't mind going cheap at SS [b:b14cd62bc5]or[/b:b14cd62bc5] 2B, but being cheap at both makes me a little uncomfortable.
