Sneezedoc, Bernie posted team salaries so basically that figure minus 2.5 is your total ...

Regarding the message on my Twins salaries. I hope I didn't do something wrong.

I thought the theme was to use at least 20 players. I actually paid for a team and then drafted the Twins so I know the salary should be right. I did cut Rich Reese and a SP ( Woodson I believe), The team should consist of 20 players.

Whoops! I see tha Page 2 had more description than I remembered. I was on Page 3. My above is the explanation of how I did my cut. So I guess I'm supposed to add these players back and end up with a salary over the cap.

Not a problem I guess since I took out a .322 at 1B and a pitcher who was midpriced. Just provide guidence.

If It's OK, I want to look now at the rosters Bernie posted and I MAY change from the Pirates....essentially, I don't think I want to just draft .50 cent players (which I would have to do based on the Pirate roster)....It might be better to just include 20 players from the roster, not just the 20 most expensive given that we already have to make exceptions for the Twins and Orioles
If we can keep just "any 20", I would stick with the Pirates...if it is the 20 most expensive, I will get back to you over the next 6 hours to pick another team

1. Genegrid---San Francisco- $67.15
2. Sykes---NY Yankees--$60.61
3. Hak --- Detroit --$65.02
4. MTCSMiller --- Baltimore -- $76.67 (can only draft .50 FA) --
5. Novie - Oakland -- $56.2
6. The Turtle - Boston -- $58,640,000
7. Warriors 2 - Twins - 64.26
8. Doctor_tax - Cubs - 56.17
9. tomwatson - Mets - 71.22
10. Sneezedoc (I want to hold my spot)....Pirates (if we can take "any 20"), Atlanta (if it is the top 20)

Herein lies another problem with the "top 20" idea (especially if Minny and Baltimore are exempted)...the Braves "bottom 5" have NO CATCHERS or SS in their top 20.....so I would have to draft at least 2 catchers and a SS with my remaining money....

Sneezedoc, if you took Atlanta, you could keep one of your catchers and one of your SS as backups at those positions in addition to your top 20, and you would still have almost $15 million to use on FA's, which should be plenty to pick up both a catcher and a SS. I don't see a problem for you there.

For Baltimore and Min, there has to be an exception because it is impossible to make the $80 million without one. I certainly don't think it is an advantage to either of them to have the exception.

I think the 20 most expensive is a good rule, and we should stick with it, with the minimal exceptions of where they are completely necessary.

For Minny, if you keep the top 20, and add to get back to 24 minimum roster, you end up $1.5 million over. So it seems to me that you would have to cut a one extra guy from within your top 20 that would make it legel. I don't think it needs to be restrictive, like the lowest player that gets you there, but I also don't think it would be right to cut a guy making, say $4 million or more. should be some one in the $1.5 to mayne $3 million range.

does that seem fair?

Sneezedoc, with the Pirates, after top 20, you'd have around $7 million to pick 4 players, that's not bad either. I think both Atlanta and Pit would be good choices.

You have to take the top 20. We can't change the theme after we are almost full. Top 20 fill in with FA. BAL had a chance to pick and choose a little because they were the only ones with over $80 mill for their top 20.

BAL was the only exception. Let's fill the league with existing rules or disband. There are certainly enough leagues forming to keep everyone happy.

ATL would work fine. You have to keep the top 20 but you can keep them all. ATL was weak at SS and c to begin with. You can keep those guys or replace all or some with higher priced FA's. This is the spirit of the league. take your core and then make it a championship team by shoring up your weaknesses. Add a RP, add an OBP or speed for top of the order, etc.
