Hey, if you are bored, give me some help for my 25

Postby MARCPELLETIER » Thu Apr 13, 2006 12:12 am

I am playing a small tournament, next week, and I have to find out a roster of 25 players among the following teams:

Twins, Nationals, and Redsox

roster specification:
I only need three SPs (no need for *SP)
I need a back-up for all positions.
Injuries don't count.
25 players needed (no specification for pitching/offense)
Eligible offensive players: 100 AB min (so no Zimmerman, no Youkilis, no Tyner, no Glenn Williams)
Eligible SP: 50 IP (so Carasco can start; so is Scott Baker)
Eligilbe SP: 35 IP
DH inclusive.
Centerfielders can play all outfields.
Stadium will be 15 for singles and 10 for homeruns (both sides).

Here is my core team:

1SP: Santana
2SP: Carrasco
3SP: Patterson
SP/RP: Baker
RP-rhp: Nathan
RP-rhp: Jessie Crain
RP-reverse: Cordero
RP-lhp specialist: Mike Myers

pick 1 or 2: Wakefield, Mulholland (another lhp specialist), Rincon, Timlin

Offense
c- Varitek
c- Mauer
1b- Nick Johnson
dh-David Ortiz
2b- Spivey
ss- J.Castro
3b- Mueller
all-around back-up: Graffanino
lf-Ramirez
cf: Damon
rf: Guillen
pinch-hit vs lhp: Lecroy
pinch-hit vs rhp: Nixon

pick 2 or 3 of the following: Hunter, Redmond, Schneider, Olerud, Morneau, Wilkerson, Church, Byrd, P.Wilson, Millar, Vidro, Ford

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that Wilkerson will be in. Nice platoon with Guillen, and plays all outfields.

Pitching-wise I think I'd choose Rincon

Hitting...of the choices listed: Redmond, Hunter and Church

Good Luck

All right, here is how it looks right now:

[b:c32bf7d1ec]Pitchers(9)[/b:c32bf7d1ec]
1SP: Santana
2SP: Carrasco
3SP: Patterson
SP/RP: Baker
RP-closer: Nathan
RP-set-up: Jessie Crain
RP-reverse: Cordero
RP-lhp specialist: Mike Myers
RP-insurance: Rincon

[b:c32bf7d1ec]STARTING LINE_UP vs rhp (9)[/b:c32bf7d1ec]
c- Mauer
1b- Nick Johnson
dh-David Ortiz
2b- Vidro
ss- J.Castro
3b- Mueller
lf-Ramirez
cf: Damon
rf: Guillen

[b:c32bf7d1ec]Bench (7)[/b:c32bf7d1ec]
Varitek, Graffanino, Wilkerson, LeCroy, Nixon, Hunter, Spivey

Left-overs
Wakefield, Eischen, Mulholland, Schneider, Redmond, Olerud, Millar, Morneau, Castilla, P.Wilson, Church, Byrd

cummings, with Lecroy capable of catching, I think that adding a middle infielder (Vidro) will provide my team with more flexibility than Redmond.

One thing I have to make sure: will have enough pitching with 6 relievers, including one lefty-specialist?

How is Mauer/Varitek working out?

Yep, given the specs you mentioned above i.e. a backup in all positions, you're right, the current roster gives you good flex.

Do you have to consider relief fatigue in re: to consecutive games pitched? -given that you only need 3 SPs I imagine that your RPs will always be available to you...in a 15/10 park? I think you should be fine, just the right ammount of pitching IMO. None wasted.

Well, Mauer vs rhp seems to be better than Varitek. Also, I will be coaching this team, so I won't feel afraid to change Mauer for Varitek as soon as a lhp is up. >If my opponents comes back with a rhp, I will stay feel good with Varitek hitting.

For relievers, I think it`s no more than 2 consecutive games. With 5 relievers and a specialist, I should be fine, but I feel it weird to leave Wakefield (over 5M) on the wire.

Does Wakefield have an R rating this year??

If so, cannot he be the long man, as I am sure it would be an R3 (atleast). Sorry I coulda looked at it myself, just got done playing a pretty bad round of golf, forgot my hat, and shaved my head last nite, so, I am a bit crispy on the brain at the moment, and do not want to research/think too hard.
