I normally don't go for the high priced cards, but that's how it worked out in this league. Most of the league is pitcher's parks. Should I tie up $25M in two players like this?

I'm sure you realize D. Lee won't hit 46 HRs in that division, and in your park. I like his card though, I was thinking about getting him on my next team. 7.2L and 7.3R BPHRs though. You'll need those of course.

B. Roberts is a joke at $11M IMO. Someone prove me otherwise. To me your starting pitching is suspect.

Any other 2Bs available? Do you know what your lineup will look like?

I've tried to get Cora and have him bat 9th since 2B is so thin, with the idea of buying plenty of offense at other positions. Someone else grabbed him though.

This is luckymans take on B. Roberts (whom I have yet to use):

---Brian Roberts 11.12M

Anyone who remembers that 2001 Alomar was paid 7.66M must probably say to himself that "no chance that I'll spend 11M on Roberts".

Okay, now calm down. First, Alomar was wildly underpriced. Let's agree that Alomar and Roberts should be worth around 9.5M-10M. If Roberts is indeed 1M overpaid, can he be of any use?

I definitively think he can. Particularly in Petco. Because the downgrade in Petco probably costs more than 1.5M to the sluggers. In other words, if you have 6M left to spend on your Petco team, instead of buying your fifth closer, or buying a slugger, it will probably make more sense to upgrade with Roberts and have your good cheapies occupy the rest of the diamond. Furthermore, there are some interesting upsides with having Roberts, other than his defense. First, you have one of the best hitter in the top of your line-up, which maximize the overall value of the line-up. Second, his card vs rhp remains a solid rbi threat, with productive extrabases hits at 4, 5, and 6. He thus remains an excellent rbi producer in Petco, contrary to some other players.

My take: Overpaid? yeah, probably...but you know, in life you have to make choices, and 80M in Petco is a lot of money to invest when you want to avoid paying for homeruns....

The only decent defensive 2Bs left are Iguchi and Belliard

ahhh a no dh league, makes a big difference. I think roberts is fine, espcially in a no dh league where you wants lesss out in your lineup.

That being said, his decent ob, good tb's and low dp's make him btter suited for the #2 spot vs righties, if you have a decent leadoff. I might put Vizquel up top, Roberts 2nd, and move Crisp and his good clutch and tb's down to the 5th spot.

Any chance there is a better hitter than Wilk for RF? I really don't like his card much, except for the def. The only team I have him on is a 100 mil, where he platoons with Howard at first, and CF backup for Duffy.

The only good RF left is Giles. I had originally intended Wilkerson to play left and lead-off against lefties, but I missed out on Guerrero in the draft. Things were so thin in left and right on the waiver wire, I went for Lee because I lacked right-handed power.

That's my thinking. You want this guy driving in runs for you. 2nd or 3rd in the order.

Vizquel only has 37 OB chances vs-R. You sure 'bout that geek? 8)

Might switch Crisp to leadoff and bump Roberts down to #2 against righties. Crisp has negative clutch and Vizquel has postive, that's why I'm hitting Vizquel fifth.

As an update, this is my best start ever in SOM. I guess this was money wisely spent. Roberts isn't tearing it up offensively, but it's probably just a matter of time before he improves.
