Well, as the junior member of this gathering (ranking-wise in any event - I'm 42), I guess I'm just hoping to cause a little trouble along the way...but I sure was surprised to get most of what I asked for in the draft...probably falls into the category of "be careful what you wish for", but I am encouraged! My waivers ranking of 10 is a bit of a bummer, as my team is not without needs, but one can't expect everything when HAL's at the controls. While this is only my second 80's team, I'm hoping to be somewhat of a force for all you grizzled veterans to contend with on your way to glory...

Ain't too sure about my club.

I found luck in the draft in merely getting a cheap catcher after a few owners drafted 4 and 5 catchers each.

As I'm ranked in the Top 410, I can't see too many owners worried about my collection of bats and gloves.

It will be fun to see if I can get one of these catchers to toss a runner out. Will somebody please put [b:9c107af180]Rob Deer [/b:9c107af180]on "steal more"! :D

DEER TALE

Postby hechojazz » Thu Apr 13, 2006 5:27 pm

Barely on topic, but I feel compelled to share an embarrasing item of personal history...I took my mom to a Yankee day game back in the 80's, when Rob Deer was on the Tigers. I'd just gotten out of grad school at Michigan, and had become a Tigers fan while out there in Ann Arbor. I had a Tigers road jersey on at the Stadium. I had a mitt with me, and was coming back from getting a beer, having left my mom in the box seats we had up along the third base line. She was seated on the aisle, to my right as I came down (between me and home plate). I had the brew in one hand, and was holding the mitt in the other (but didn't have the mitt on my hand). Anyway, Deer was at the plate, and he smashed an incredible foul shot line drive - right at my mom's head! She was reading a paperback and wasn't paying attention, and I reached over her shoulder at the last moment, deflecting the ball with my folded mitt.

Well, to the assembled thousands, it appeared as though some moronic Detroit fan couldn't even catch a foul ball with a glove on! I learned the true meaning of a Bronx cheer that day! It was certainly odd being the center of such negative attention! At least I hadn't spilled a drop of my beverage...but anyway, any mention of Rob Deer brings back that memory...

Any thanks from your mom for the glove save?

I'm sure when 80s v2.0 comes out with its weighted waivers, we'll see a change of tactics on working towards the higher waiver position.

In the 200x format, it killed you to lose a significant % of your top 15 picks only to see waiver slot #10 because another few didn't get their bottom 8 or so players.

Don't tell me that this league will be all "ssssshhhhhh" until the leaders appear @ game 159

With all the trading (three so far), you'd hope for a little banter amongst the stars.

I smell upset here.

Smell?

I think what you are smelling are diesel fumes....the Panthers are getting ready to roll. Keeping the Tigers in reserve.
