Peter Gammons

lifetime RedSox ass kisser or informed and objective professional?

Peter Gammons is headed to the HOF as a member of the media. I admit I am not overly familiar with his print work(newspapers, books). I understand he introduced the concept of weekly(Sunday) baseball pages comprised of quick hits/rumors from around the leagues. Wow, who would of thought of that?

All I know is that his effort as a broadcaster is horrendous. He is the consumate homer. All he talks about is the Red Sox. Even when the subject is of another vain he will somehow, someway manage to insert a Red sox comment/comparison into the disscussion. He makes wild /bold statements and predictions that leave one shaking their head. Example: He stated last week on ESPN Baseball Tonight that Curt Schilling is a lock for the HOF when he retires. What the F? The dude is almost 40 and doesn't even have 200 wins. He helps the Sox to the World Series victory and in Gammons twisted world he becomes a HOF'er.

Everytime I hear Gammons profess future greatness on another up and comer I think of the time he argued that the future of baseball in Canada(Montreal specificaly) depended upon the fantastic talents ofPeter Bergeron who Gammons was certain would win a MLB batting crown. For the record Bergeron was last seen finsihing his career in Washington sporting a lifetime.224 avg.

Now on Sunday Night Baseball his job is to broadcast from the stands from the perpective of the average Joe. Ugh. If I have to suffer through Joe Morgan's circuitous discourse than the last thing I need is Gammons stuttering spit spewing grumblings from the stands.

Just had to get that off my chest...thanks for listening.

I don't get this. Morgan offers baseball insight well above what most announcers even understand, much less state.

To me, people who say, "I hate Joe Morgan", might as well be saying, "I really hate to hear someone talking about the inner workings of a successful baseball team."

BTW, did I tell you I can't stand the Red Sox, and I hope the Yankees beat the hell out of them in '06?

Couldn't agree more about Gammons ( go Yanks!!) or disagree more about Morgan. IMO he is one of the best analysts around, and the classiest guy there is.

Peter's already IN the hall of fame, overdue. yes, he does produce alot of spittle, those little white blobs that stick to your lips, but I suppose we all would if we thought or talked that fast. he admitted on a yankees pregame show a few years back that he can be influenced and "used" by his unparrelled sources, and acknowledged as much as 40% of what gm's tell him is manipulation. the problem is, he isn't as discerning as he ought to be when gloating about the latest phenom. he's particularly overboard about the red sox (hey, he's practically on the payroll, and IS a confidant and consultant on trades) and especially the A's...he loves billy beane. it's embarrassing how supportive he is of bonds, but maybe he'll temper that more with the latest news. snb and daygame were infinetly better with that other Miller guy.

Joe Morgan is a good analyst during the games. He knows what he is talking about. He does leave you with an empty feeling sometimes thought like he feels like he can't tell us the whole story. Jon Miller really has to pull information out of him sometimes. BTW, I love Jon Miller on the broadcasts. Have you heard some of his imitations! He is (or was?)also an avid SOMer!

Have to agree with Splinter again. Gammons is OVER-RATED and a MORON!!!! And yes everything revolves around the Red Sox. Wish they had never won the World Series in his lifetime........
