No one could say it better than eforeman. I would have been long gone after my first miserable 73-89 season without the "newbie (whoops - rookie) advice thread" and all of the little tidbits of strategy I picked up by reading these boards. They gave me the confidence to keep trying, and I have steadily improved (just starting my 4th season now). Now that I have a little something to offer, I am starting to respond to requests for help whereas before I was always the one asking or "lurking".

I'd like to appeal to the self-interest of all those vets who've been here 5 years, who may be less active on the boards than they used to be. Are there any features you'd like to see added to the game? Any additional products, like "Back to the '70s"? TSN is not going to invest a whole lot in a product line (I'm talking SOM Online) that's not growing. Your help is needed to prevent rookies from giving up. So, all you vets out there, please come back and help us grow this thing! :)

I don't know, luckyman, I'm finding my in-league messages to be even more dead.

[quote:6c49b98aef]With apologies to Elisabeth Kubler-Ross, all baseball computer simulation message boards go through these five stages:

1. Birth
2. Growth
3. Invasion of the people who can't spell
4. Decline
5. Death [/quote:6c49b98aef]
Funny stuff, BK. I guess we are in Stage 4. However, I don't believe that your Stage 5 is imminent (correctly spelled!). I'm hoping Stage 5 will be "Rejuvenation."

Done been talked about. :P

Seriously, this may be a reason for a dropoff in board activity. Most everything I read lately has already been said. At times it seems better than a calendar. Once a month you get a thread about how important is defense. Then how important is the stolen base. Then a discussion about injury conspiracies. Then one about the secret to winning. Then one complaining about HAL's bullpen usage. Then it starts all over again with a discussion about the importance of defense.

For those relatively new it is probably very interesting and informative. It was for me. But if you have been around for a few years it can become a bit of deja vue vue vue vue.

Not complaining or thinking there is a solution. Just a comment/thought.

Yeah, I know these things have been talked about, but they haven't happened yet. My point is this: they are more likely to happen if we keep more rookies around. More revenue for TSN--more likely to invest--etc.

:P  back atcha.

I hadn't thought about how booooring some of these discussions must be to the vets. Now that you mention it, I'm starting to feel the same way myself, and I haven't been here very long at all. Now that I have a learned a very little something about the game, I'm getting interested in helping others out. But I imagine many of the vets have been down that road before, too, and maybe even been burned a little by it.

Anyway, I've learned to love this game, and I want to see it thrive and grow. I'm still a rookie myself, and I hope I didn't put anyone's nose out of joint. :)
