Yankee 1956 Advice

Postby bsolheim » Fri Apr 14, 2006 7:18 pm

Hello
My division has Griffith, Fenway 46 and Yankee 56
7 LHP and 5 RHP
Any advice would be appreciated, I have not tried this park before.

There's lots of posts on Y56 advice so I won't go into too much detail, but here's my first thoughts:

Foxx is a bad fit for that park. Swap him for a lefty hitting 1B like Cash or Powell and use the $ to upgrade Snodgrass to (hopefully) Reggie Jackson or else a platoon where you can get another lefty power bat like Strawberry or Bake McBride. The name of the game in Y56 is lefty power.

I've never seen anyone try nickel starters in Y56 before, but I would highly recommend flipping Ruether/Byrne/Cvengros into Merritt/Bennett/Heintzelman if you're going to go that route.

If you're spending all that $$$$ on McCovey, I'd be a little slow to platoon him. Mincher yes, McCovey no.

If you have a crafty type like Nev or Petrosian in your division, they will keep one or two cheap lefty starters on hand just to throw at you (and any other lefty parks in the league). Every time you face a LHP with the lineup above, you have almost no power until the six and seven spots (Mantle bats righty and Yaz's power is against RHP, he has excellent OBP against LHP).

With Jimmy Key as my ace, the nickel package of SPs, and a strong bullpen
