Help my with my 2b/DH situation

All,

Here's my team...

I'm pretty happy with it so far... there are a few questions though.

My initial plan was Barrett at 2b, and Tony Phillips and Jason Thompson platooning at DH. The "problem" is that injuries put both Phillips and Thompson in their best years. So is it a waste to platoon them? In their best years, they are still heavily waited vs. L and R, respectively, but dang, particularly with Thompson, I want them to get more ABs than platooning would normally allow. So do I make Thompson my full time DH and make Phillips my full-time 2b? FWIW, Barrett is off to a *very* slow start (batting .139 in 79 ABs).

Also, when would be a good time to loose patience with Darwin?

I love Phillips in his best year. He should be playing full time. He will get on base a ton.

Let Phillips play 2B and DH Thomspon. bye bye marty

Thompson is a Power W from the left side-I don't know what that means but I think its bad. I wouldn't get hung up on having him hit against lefties.

Sykes, what kind of numbers can someone expect from Phillips against righties. Is it really worth going to a "3" at 2B?

Unless you face lots of LH pitchers, I think it is tough to play Phillips vs RH at 2B. You might want to drop Barrett and try a cheap 2b who hits RH. Gantner or Flannery are possible.

1991 Phillips playing full time.

.294 BA and .352 OBP vs RHP is servicable. Of course it was a Kingdome team, but still worth using money elsewhere, even if only 75 cents.

Dan, what I like to do in these situations is to trade guys like Phillips and Thompson to anybody that is two games behind and in second place in your division. Should work.

I'm assuming by best card, you mean Thompson's '82 card. (I'd rather have '78 or '79 for the N rating vs. LHP, personally.) Anyhow, I think Adam is right about Thompson. The "W" means that all HR results from the pitcher's card are turned into singles, and Thompson only has two extra base hits vs. LHP: one HR roll (a 2/8 with a 1-4 split, yech). and one double roll (a 2/7 with a 1-13 split). He definitely needs to platoon.

Trying Phillips full-time at 2B wouldn't be a bad idea. It doesn't hurt to have cash in the bank to make moves later in the year.

Ok, I've dropped Barrett, and picked up Oester for his decent D and not entirely awful offense vs. R. That frees up 2 mil. I'll take a look on the wire for platoon mates for Thompson, but I might just give him a chance for a few games, and if his hitting vs. L is a problem, I'll make a move then.

BTW, I'm in Fenway (and so is a division rival), so the W isn't quite as horrifying for a LH hitter. Plus, my division is rather light on LHP, particularly among starters.
