Box scores.What to look for?

When checking the scores for the previous night, what is it best to look for? I must confess that I don't really look at the play by play listings much them in much detail. Should I? If I should, what should I look for as at the moment i tend to just look at the score and the pitching line and don't really take a lot of notice if a player had a fly out or line out etc.

I always check to see what bone head move Hal made this time to cost me the game.

I look at the pitching substitutions and see who's getting the innings in various situations. If I see something I don't like on a consistent basis then I'll make adjustments.

What types of pitchers are you consistently losing to? Are they in your division?

Are your hitters stealing when you don't want them to?

You can't take one game and say this is the way it is. Look at trends.

But mostly I look for sweeps. :D Especially if it's someone I know.

Shankly---I myself think it is really important to really go over the whole game inning by inning...I will give you a perfect example.....The other night in one of my 69' leagues I had a "D" base stealer get thrown out twice in one game and then again the following game. Now obviously I would not have him stealing under any circumstances but By really looking at the game events I realized I had placed him in front of a good H & R guy because of injury.and the most likely scenerio was that he was thrown out stealing because of a missed H&R. If I were one who didn't look at the game all that close I would have never realized my mistake.

Another thing to look for is Hal pulling your starter to quick??? Maybe you need to go to slow hook with that pitcher.

There are really alot of differnent things you can see if you really look at the game close..Especially watch the how your team runs the bases on the different settings.. If they are to aggressive dial it down or visa-versa..If they are bunting in situations that you like to bunt, etc.

IMO---To get HAL to play your team the way you want them played you have to study each game to find the small details that could mean winning or losing a series..That is just my opinion--Good luck to you.

Good advice, Pelzer. I too look closely at each game. In particular, I look at SB attempts (are they occurring at appropriate or inappropriate times?), base running (getting thrown out taking the extra base too much?), and all substitutions (bullpen management, defensive replacements, pinch hitting).
