I like Gibby's chances this year. If we take out his rookie year of 2001, and also his injury year 2004, then we're left with something like .275/.325/.490 with 25 HRs & 85 RBI. He has a good shot of bettering that this year, his 5th in the bigs, which is when most players hit their peak depending on how old they were when they arrived in the majors.

Also, don't mistake me - I was not saying the above guys are necessrily 1 for 1 values for a good 2B like Ellis, but I think combine one them with Cantu or Alou and you get fair value for both this season & beyond. Especially for someone in your spot, with 1 top 2B & 1 solid 2B but a lack of trading partners, since everyone else seems to have 2B pretty well filled.

We do too, for that matter, as I have no worries about playing Polanco there full-time, and looking around I see a ton of teams stocked with 3B. If worse comes to worse we can stand pat at that spot & play Cantu vs RHP at 3B. See what comes our way...

Here's my only problem with your analysis of Gibby, on most teams he's a 4th OF/ backup 1b at best, and the ONLY reason he won't be for the O's this year, is Matos can't stay healthy, and they want to bring Markasis along slowly.

As far as lacking trading partners, I don't necessarliy want to trade, I just keep seeing everyone say they want a 2b. I'm perfectly content to keep Iguchi, and Castillo and let one develop and play the other one. I have no shot in this league this year cause my SP SUX big time, and I have to many injury prone guys. Bottom line it's all about the future for me wit this team, that's why Blake and Gibby don't fit, they are to old/established in my eyes to offer significant upside.

But, hey LOVE the debate. :D

One other little thing, then I'll let this go:

[quote:e9b18687ca]1) Gibbons so far in 2006: 314/.333/600 - should be a 30/100 guy this year, peaking at age 29.

2) Blake so far in 2006: .400/.484/.600.

Of course have to see how the #s hold up, but if both stay injury-free, I think they have at least as much value as Iguchi over a couple of years (currently .304/.365/.393).

You are comparing apples and oranges here. Of course Iguchi's numbers probably won't be the equal of those two ( but I bet they are better than Gibbys  ) but Gibby and Blake are OF's and Iguchi a 2b. The numbers Blake and Gibby have put up, thus far in their carreers woudl suggest they are little better than average OF's, so I'm sure there's are quite a few available. Iguchi, however, is 2b, with power, speed, defense, and hits for a decent average, there aren't alot of 2b who fill that bill.

Okay I'm done now.
