A Heartfelt Goodbye

A Heartfelt Goodbye

I will not be coming forward to the 1969 Series. I started following baseball in earnest in 1968, when the Indians were a third place team with the best pitching in baseball. The next year, 1969, they dropped to last, beginning the nightmare which was the period of 26 years before they next made the post season. I have no desire to relive that. I will play out the ATG teams and credits I accumulate, and then focus on Netplay. I do look forward to seeing those of you scheduled to be in Vegas in November, and I just might get into the 2005 Series leagues. Having the Yankees lose...now THAT is something worth replaying...over and over!

Mr. Mutt! No need to leave, ATGII is not going anywhere. !)&) is a complete & separate game and not a replacement for ATGII. If you wish to avoid it, avoid it with gusto, wholly and entirely. Nothing else need change.

The world of ATGII would be a far more dismal place withough the colorful variety of your teams, and the boards would be rather barren as well.

Listen to what M.M. is saying! Divide your time between Netplay and ATGII.

DO NOT STOP PLAYING HERE!!!!!!!!!!!

Muttdoc, listen to MM and Nev. You are barking up the wrong tree. :) You can continue to play ATG2 with all the gusto you have in the past. As mentioned, the '69 game (sounds obscene) is a whole different game. It's NOT replacing ATG2. Many of us jumped over and created teams and theme leagues, because it's new and something different to do. However, I suspect the majority of us will continue to give ATG2 the majority of our TSN dollars. So, keep trucking here, my friend!

Being a native Clevelander and perhaps a masachist, I too suffered through the 1969 season. I remember how jubilant I was when we acquired Ken "The Hawk" Harrelson. I thought.....finally.... a pro power hitter!!! Much to my dismay he turned out to be in the wrong sport.

There is one reason I can think of why you should stay and play. 2 words. Sudden Sam!!!!!!! He was a joy to watch, and sometimes a bit of a moron. :) I remember somewhere around that year Tom Matchik from the Tigers hit a game winning homer off him. The press questioned him relentlessly after the game, questioning why he had thrown him a curveball? Sam in his infinate Berra'esque response said something like this: Well he knows and I know that he cant hit my fastball so if I slip him the curve he will be surprised, but then he might be expecting that so ......shades of Larry, Curly and Moe!!! Anyways your thread sparked some keen memories. I hope you keep playing too as this is the first time I've got to compete against your Spider6 team.

muttdoc, I hope you keep playing ATGII. I am still playing mostly ATGII with maybe one team going in the 69 season. 1969 was the start of the Big Red Machine era so I like it. You are one of the guys who helps everyone keep this stuff in prospective. If you left who would run the asylum :?:

Chief I know how you feel about 69 . My White Sox were terrible , attendance was too at Comiskey and the Sox almost went under that yr . Then they sold to Veeck and he brought in Dick "Ritchie" Allen , who single handedly saved the Sox from moving or folding . Hope to see you in ATGII . Forget 69 if you dont want to play it but your a good manager in ATGII .

I'll add my voice to the others, muttdoc. I love playing netplay, but it doesn't replace waking up and swearing at your computer every morning when you see what your teams did last night. Netplay is a better experience, but only a couple of times a week.

As a Cubs fan who started to pay attention to baseball around 67, 69 was a heartbreak year for me, as for all Cubs fans. It's somehow satisfying to see the team salaries of the 69 season and see that they didn't really have that good of a team, and maybe the miracle was that they were in first for as long as they were!

Hope you stay with ATG!

Gee, I thought that 69 replaced ATG2, like ATG 2 replaced ATG 1. But keep the praise coming. I shamelessly love it. I should quit on a regular basis and seek kudos. They make me feel warm and...oh, wait, I am peeing down my leg.
