[quote:003c862814]I haven't gotten rid of any players yet, but I am always on the lookout for some talent. I could use Rickey or Clemens, you can never have enough pitching. [/quote:003c862814]

Hey Ugly, just a little tip that might help you out in the future --- Rickey's not a pitcher (sorry to be the one to break it to you).

I'll take a look at your roster; see if we can't work a trade.

I loved your note in the Epic league post -- very funny !!

INTO THE MIND OF JABLOWMI

Postby Jablowmi » Mon Apr 24, 2006 11:34 am

[quote:123fb819d4="Moodywoody"]I think pitching is going to be the key in this leaue. The two best teams in the league have dominant pitching. I don't think I can win unless I can improve my pitching, but it is not easy to do. The top quality pitching is gone, and only gambles are left.

Henderson and Brett will prove to be a disaster for Jablowmi, especially if he keeps them after game 81. My analysis kept me from picking up Brett because I am fairly confident it is his worse card. One thing I know for sure, it is not his top two or three cards. $9 million bucks for mediocrity doesn't seem like good use of money. I would rather have Fernandez.

The problem with Henderson is that he is great to compliment a good offense, but not to carry it. Too much of the offense is concentrated on two players (over $16 million) who I don't think can deliver the RBI's necessary to win, espcially in Royals Stadium.

It will be all a moot point, however, if Semper's hitting comes alive. His pitching has been carrying him so far into a first place position, but his hitting has grossly underperformed.[/quote:123fb819d4]

Wow, still no love for the Jablowmis! Re: Brett, I have no idea how you narrowed him to any of his cards after 46 ABs (now 71). He hasn't been injured and has zero extra base hits. While his BA/SLG/OBP clearly point to 1991, it is important to remember that he had 40 doubles in 505 ABs that year and there are doubles all over his card. What the zero extra base hit deal shows to me is that he's probably rolling more than his fair share of 4s, 5s and 6s on the small die. That being said, I felt he was a relatively cheap experiment. At 95%, I like to make a lot of moves, particularly when a 1st round pick becomes free early. Fat Sid was struggling and my team was 2-7 when I picked him up late one night. To me, a no brainer. If he fails in the next week or so, I'll dump him and get Sid (or someone else) back. After this experiment, which also includes Dykstra, Will Clark, Lonnie Smith, etc., my after 42 game lineup/staff will be (hopefully) more or less set.

As for Rickey, I've had more than my fair share of Bad Rickey experiences, and while I agree that his lesser cards are somewhat complementary (albeit at the .400 OBP complementary level), his big cards are huge anywhere and he can certainly carry a team. His '85 and '90 cards are plus .500 SLG and plus .420 OBP! He's a 1 in LF and can play CF and has AA/1-17 speed. To go along with the speed, he had around 60 extra-base hits in '85 and '90. '84 ain't so bad either, with .458 SLG and nearly 50 extra-base hits.

Time will tell......

The reason I dropped Brett was in game 11 Hal pinch hit for him with Buck Martinez  , the way I figure it, as bad as Hal is, he's only doing that if it's Brett's worst year.

Bally, you may be right about Brett, but I don't think it has anything to do with HAL. Take a look at this thread re: Schmidt. In it, there's a discussion re: Schmidt getting dropped b/c, following an injury, HAL left him on the bench against a lefty and batted him 9th against righties
during a single series (the manager had left 3B open for that series). At the time, he was 2-20 with a 2B and no HRs. Obviously, very early. He went on to hit 46 HRs with 120 RBIs and .287/.599/.398 (1982 card). That pickup worked for me, although the rest of the team sucked. But, the moral of the story is that HAL doesn't know squat.....

Don't Be that Manager...

Postby bjs73 » Mon Apr 24, 2006 3:52 pm

Being wrong is such a hateful (and hurtful) thing....

Lessons learned are sometimes hurtful as it was in my case when I let Schmidt go. I have since learned that HAL is truly a moron and cannot be trusted to give you information or hints about exactly what type of players you have based on whether he plays someone or not. I did it because I am always on the lookout for an edge in this game but all it did was make me look more moronic than HAL.

The Schmidt case here is only one example. I have another example of this that I did not suffer from as well.

[quote:1467ba0ded]But, the moral of the story is that HAL doesn't know squat.....[/quote:1467ba0ded]

Indeed. Jablowmi, you capitalized on my mistake in that league. Booze and cigarettes helped me get through it all though. :D

The only way you can figure out the cards is by doing your own homework cause HAL isn't going to give you any help with any type of "useful hints."

Yes, I capitalized to the tune of about 79 wins!

Brett is gone, there is no Brett

Postby Jablowmi » Tue Apr 25, 2006 8:13 am

OK, the experiment failed. Brett is gone, although Sid is not back (went with Ojeda and Lopes). Bye, bye, George, we hardly knew ya.
