Australian based Rookie needs help with Defense

I'm coming up to game 42 and have discovered I've got a worst year Burleson.
Now my SOM board is over 10,000 miles away (and 30 years old) in a closet in my parents house in Canada, so I can't look up the defensive (or hit and run or any of that stuff).
All the quality shortstops are gone or discredited as well.
So, how much is his defense worth?
Do I keep him or do I drop him and platoon say, Guillen and Schofield and spend the money elsewhere?
Anywhere to view the charts until the get sent here?

His defense is worth what the card says. To quote the rules:

Choosing your players (2nd subset of this rule)

The Mystery Card and assessing player talent (paragraph 2)

Although the hitting and pitching probabilities will vary for each year for each player, all other ratings are the same for all 5 years. For example, although Mattingly hit .343 in 1984, .324 in 1985, etc., and his probabilities for getting base hits and homeruns will vary depending on which year your league has, his fielding, stealing, baserunning and bunting ratings are always the same. Similarly, although Sid Fernandez will strike out more hitters if his year was 1989 as opposed to 1987, his endurance, hold, balk and wild pitch ratings are constant and known.

I would keep him unless there was a great opportunity to upgrade elsewhere. He's a 8th or 9th hitter anyway, so it's not like he personally would be ruining your offense and his defense is still great. I am a big Tony Fernandez fan and feel the same way about him. I would never cut him.

thanks everyone for your replies. Some of the links seems to indicate that the 1 versus 2 range are worth about 25 points of batting average (an extra 16 hits over a full season). If so, that at least gives some reference for decision making.

Now on another subject. With the same three guys in the outfield is it better to play the ranges as 3-2-3 (LF-CF-RF) or as 3-3-1?

What time of the day are the frenzies in Oz? How about the daily game scores?

I'm probably doing this wrong because I'm not sure what a frenzy is, but this time of year Sydney is 14 hrs ahead of New York (16 in the northern winter). Game scores are ready about 3 pm here.

I did think 3-2-3.
