Should I Drop Strawberry?

It's late is the season (123 gm). I'm DHing Strawberry vs RHP. He doing ok, but not ok for the money. I could pick up Kemp, and either Akins or Darrel Evans. I figure one of them should be able to equal or better Straw's production. I'm lending towards cutting him, or should I just leave well enough alone? Any opinions welcomed.

Hey, Darth. We'll, he's obviously tracking to '89. He has a .780 OPS at Riverfront, which you could probably find elsewhere and cheaper. I think it's a tough call. Are the Evans and Kemp cards pristine? What can you do with the extra $? If you could improve elsewhere or add depth and get someone to match or top the .780, I'd make the move.

I think I'm going to do it, kemp and Evans are un-used.

yes.drop him like a hot potato. the first game i had him he hit 3 hr.
15games later that was the only 3 hits he had.

I see Darth dropped Straw and picked up Kemp and that clearly makes sense in this context (after 123 games), but I wouldn't advise dropping Straw too fast. Fifteen games probably isn't enough--and those 3 HR in one game might just tell you something.

In my very first 80's season I had Straw in a year that I couldn't really read. After about 40 games he was only so-so and I was thinking strongly of dropping him. But a really close look at his stats seemed to me to rule out his two worst years , so I stuck with him. He ended up getting very hot and hitting 47 HR and 120 RBI and leading my team--with good pitching but otherwise marginal offensively-- to the wildcard and a championship. I definitely couldn't have gotten there without him.

On another team Straw hit 58 HR and had 148 RBI--though he hit right out of the chute in that year. So he can really take over a league. And while dropping him after 123 games make sense if he's underperforming, dropping him after 15 is probably too fast. I would give him right up to the 42 game cutoff unless injury data made it clear he was in a bad year.

Straw's going to produce in any hitt'er park, over the long hall. He usually walks, can steal, can defiinitely run, and is a decent RF. I don't drop him unless I know I got his bad year.
