Coors Philosophy?

Coors Philosophy?

Postby BRADSANDBOTHE » Tue Apr 25, 2006 2:23 pm

What would be the proper way to set up a Coors team?
I have always wanted to try a team from there, but really don't know where to begin.

Spend very little on starting pitching, decent relief, good closer and load up on hitting.

Do you go with good OBP and load up on Home run hitters?

Just wanted some feedback before I give it a shot.

Basically...

1) Cheap starters with no bphrs
2) Deep, strong bullpen, full of R2's and R3's
3) lots of opb
4) lots of slugging

You have to realize that even a card like Clemens will have a high era and whip in Coors, just the nature of the beast, and that half the rolls are off the hitters cards..

So NO BP HR's on the hitters cards. If the whip is a little high, better than the HR's! Cheaper is better (though personally I prefer 1 good * sp, say like Burnett then 4 cheapies) plus 3 good, or 2 good and 2 ok rp's. Remember that because the hitters will get more hits, your sp's won't last as long, and the rp's will get more work.

Obviously look for hitter that have lots of BP Hr's. Natural HR's are more expensive, and not as necessary at home, since the BP HR will do the trick. Yes you need OBP to go with that (a 3 run bomb is better than a 1 run bomb), speed is generally not necessary at all.

For cheap pitchers I'd look at Lackey, Glavine, Vargas, Batista, Bedard, Thomson. Rp's Heilman is awesome, with Linebrink, Shields, Witasick, Majewiski all cheaper and dependable.

Cheaper hitters, Gibbons, Murton, Shelton, GLaus, Floyd, ARam are all useful. Everyone can get a stud and have them go well, but you need the right mix of value players as well.

what mtarbell and geekor say ---I assume here that geekor meant:

no BP HR on the pitchers card

But Coors Field isn't like it used to be. I would rather go with Texas stadium or Chi sox , and look for lefty power and lefty pitchers or righty power and righty pitching respectively.

Thanks for the advice,

Still waiting for the draft so I will have time to adjust plenty before game play starts.

I am sure once the draft and waivers start, I will have many more questions and some Alka-selzer close by

This is fairly basic stuff but seemingly left out by a lot of people. If a park has very high single and/or HR numbers (a hitter's park) then draft a lot of hitters with a lot of # and which are not lacking the standard amount of ballpark single; also draft a lot of pitchers with very few if any # and possibly without any ballpark single on either side if you can.

Focusing on other strategies can get you off focus of these simple facts; for example, drafting a good speed decent on base leadoff hitter can work in some parks for but high homerun parks that can leave you with an important bat in your lineup without # and that to me is very counterproductive. Also, you might find a pitcher who has no ballpark single on one or the other side but if he has a lot of # and you are in a high HR park then that's not a good pitcher for the park.

Puckin- I'll be happy to help- though I think I am now in the league with you( we draft tonight?) though I'm in petco- I still drafted heilman pretty high- he's awesome in any park- though in petco if I dont get him there are other cheaper alternatives..
