Coors Philosophy?

Post Draft-Pre Waivers

Postby BRADSANDBOTHE » Fri Apr 28, 2006 11:32 am

This is what I ended up with after the Draft.

Let's see if we can shape this into a winner.

I will take any help available, even from GlenGlen who I will be competing against.

Let me have it.

You have some good pitchers.... But you have a little bit too much $$ invested in pitching. Drop Vargas and Downs for a .50 sp only and drop the other completely. That pitching staff should be good foor Coors (in fact a bit overkill).

Next address your weakest points on offense. Build you lineup and see what spots need filling, and what positions are available to fill it.

Gibbons can play 1b or Rf, so you have some flexibility. Catcher and CF seems to be your biggest holes...

Kotsay is a good cheap option, bat him 7th with his good clutch. There are some nice big bats out there, but not sure how many you'd get as you would have to drop for cheaper options first. The way your team is, it's a hard waivers to plan for...

btw, what I mean by too much pitching, is value wise. Usually you try to keep about a 30/50 P/H split is salary cap. My usual Coors teams are lower, like 27/53. Your (assuming you amke those 2 pitching changes like I suggested) will be about 33/47. So yes your pitching is good, maybe too good. I'd even suggest dropping Witasick for a cheap .50 option, and using that money to get more hitting.

Also worth noting,

I am left with 580,000 after draft and am last on waiver list

Don't listen to geekor...He's out of his gord! Just kidding :D

He brings up excellent points. Way too much spent on hitting. Get 4 low/none BPHR pitchers, a $.50 SP that will never see the light of day and then 5 RP's with either low/no BPHR's on both sides.

Try to grab R2's or better.

My favorite RP in these cards is Heilman. He can go 3 innings and close games for ya. Couple him with Shields or T. Williams type and then grab 3 or 4 sub $1 million hard R/L RP's.

I did get almost everyone pitching wise I asked for,

I do have 4 *sp so I will drop Vargas and Downs and Witasik and pick up a .50 sp that I won't use. And pick up a cheap rp that is a 2.

I am still lacking in some hitting though

You probably don't need to keep BOTH Shields and Linebrink.

Todd Williams is available. (If I'm seeing your FA's right) He would save you $.
Other possibilities: Wuertz, Weathers, Sisco, Eldred, Guerrier.

It does look like the decent one-sided RP's that I like are gone though... :(

What other parks are in your division? How many potential LH's/RH's will you see?

Hitting:
Go with either Pratt OR Closser. They are both 4L's. You need a catcher that hits RH's well. Or dump them both and grab Barajas or B. Molina/ platoon.

While I like Harris, he's really not a good choice for Coors. Not too much power and slow. He does hit well and he's got great OB though. I assume he's your DH?

With BOTH Wilson AND Thomas, this is a triage waiting to happen.

There are ALOT of good hitting options available. I would steer clear of the very expensive hitters, when playing in a $80 million league. Spread the $ out over 9 batters or 6-7 with platoons. Look for high BPHR/SLG and OB guys.

btw- Look into each team's hitters. If a team or 2 has 5-6 lefty batters, you may need to dump Glavine for a LHSP that's a bit tougher on lefties.
