Foul Out

Postby hendrix08 » Fri Apr 28, 2006 12:18 pm

This is my first shot at the 80's. I know about using injuries to figure out the mystery card, but has anyone used Foul Out to narrow the possible years for a pitcher or hitter? I guess the first question is, can a foul out occur other than directly off of the pitchers or hitters card? If not then I think I know which year I have for Jim Rice.

Last night Rice had a foul out against M. Scott. Scott has no foul outs on the RH side of his card for any of his years, which means it came of the hitters card. Rice only has a foul out (versus RHP) on his 1978 card.

Does this make sense or am I missing some other rule that would allow a foul out to occur?

Not necessarily, it could be a Catcher-X play

I think you're right. Damn, I knew it was too good to be true.

But that's really a strong indicator that you know which year you have. It's probably more of an indicator than HBPs.

Pop outs can also occur on singles that were turned into outs because of ballpark effects.
