Defense Question - Thoughts?

Postby jsam9801 » Wed May 03, 2006 12:52 pm

I have the following options:

Put a 2e9 at 1b, and a 3e10 in of, or put a 1 at 1b, and a 4e8 out in the of. :?

I have a pretty solid defense, so a 4 would not kill me. The other outfielders are 1s, the inf from right to left a 2, 3 and 1.

Thanks!

Where's the OF

I assume the OF in question plays LF? But, I'd do this:

If the OF has a good (negative) arm rating, then go with the 2e9, 3e10. Overall, you're MUCH better off with the 2 and 3 than the 1 and 4. The 1 at 1B is a luxury overall, whereas that 4 in the OF is going to allow some hits (including extra-base ones). There's not a world of difference between a 1 and 2 at 1B, especially if the 2 has a nice e rating (is that Murray, by the way?). The difference between a 3 and 4 in the OF, however, at the corners in particular, is much bigger. If the 4 is a RF, without much an arm, I'd definitely go with the 2/3 combo. The only reason to take the 1/4 is if the 4-batter has a significantly better bat than the 3 (say, taking Greenwell or Luzinski, instead of Joe Carter, who usually doesn't cut it in Strat).

It's just bad JuJu to put Don Mattingly in RF @ 3(+1)e10. :P (He was my favorite player as a kid.)

I think it's just about even here. However, I might be inclined to put the 1 at 1B just to help make the infield airtight and throw caution to the wind on the corner OF spot. I'd rather have more of a chance for turning two and no basehits on the infield than to worry about giving up the occasional 1B, 2B, or 3B and zero double play opportunities in the OF.
