closer usage

closer usage

Postby Essex Moosemen » Thu May 04, 2006 8:42 am

It seems ike the closer usage is a little different in 2006 than it has been. Is it just me?

I had one team where HAL wouldn't put my closer in in the bottom of the 9th because the score was tied, and another where he put him in in the 7th inning to pitch three. (Lost both) :(

what's the story, man? :?

closers only come in if there is a lead, so usually hal wil not put them in if the game is tied.

Coming in the 7th, I'm assuming he was set as setup AND closer, which mean he may come in early. Is he checked do not come in before the 8th?

having same problem first 9 games bullpen has blown 3 close games and wagner has got into one game a 2-0 victory when he pitched the 9th. may have to switch him to closer and set up.

Geekor is correct, and HAL will not put him in before the ninth if he is set as your closer, as SOM defines a "closer situation" as follows...

28.2 Closer endurance is the duration, measured in number of outs, a pitcher can maintain his effectiveness in closer situations. [b:8edfc51809]In Strat‑O‑Matic, a "closer situation" is defined differently than a big‑league save opportunity. Your pitcher will be in a "closer situation" whenever you have the lead in the 9th inning or later and the tying run is on base or at bat.[/b:8edfc51809]
