Puzzled..the Fun of Trading...

Trades are hard to make most times . Its not that Nev wasn't offering a fair deal but its more like what the other manager is trying to do . In the draft I got 6 of 10 pitchers . I don't have much "extra" money to play with . I'd rather have a 1B with a 1 and lower than 17e (exception -Chance). There's no one on the FA that can take Red's place at his price without injury or the D. I'm in Bennett also . Nev in FW 86 . If decent 2B were available [quote:0d40952236](there's not much on the wire at 2b at this time)
[/quote:0d40952236] I MAY be interested but I'm not .

I'd still trade you Hodges for Cooper or McCormick which would help you out also . :D

Sounds like Nev likes to shop Red a lot? To wit:
You give up:
Salazar, Luis (500,000)
Garber, Gene (3,130,000)

Other team gives up:
Schoendienst, Red (4,240,000)
Pattin, Marty (540,000)

Or maybe he just LOVES Garber (it's my first time snagging him). This proposal was preceded by Barney Schultz for Senor Garber. I declined them. Both came prewaivers, and no bait from him since. 8)

I love pulling of BIG trades, 4 for 4 and 5 for 5 swaps. The bigger the names, the better. When your season is going to crap, and you haven't got much of a chance of competing, working out a major deal is about all the fun you can find. But, I have noticed that trading is a rare event now. I haven't worked a trade in I don't know how many leagues. I have rejected a few, however. Like was mentioned above, often it's not the quality of the player(s) being offered, but how well the offered players fit in to your game plan. The money issue, once the season starts, is a real impediment to trading, IMO. Hopefully, TSN addresses that, somehow, for the next generation.

However, declining Musial FOR Red ... someone(s) should have their heads examined. WHY would you offer that, Nev? Even more mysterious, how could ANYONE turn it down?

Adrian hit it ! A "Everyone must make one trade a week league " . Of course the 7th week would have to be done quickly before trade deadline and no trades the 8th !

To answer muadib - It's the value of 2b defense, most likely. Position scarcity. Everyone knows Musial hits a ton, and will out hit Schoendienst. BUT, it's much easier to find offensive production at 1b/LF, than it is to find great D and decent to good offense at 2b, which is what Red can provide. Would I make that trade? Maybe yes, maybe no, depending on the rest of my team and the makeup of my division.

I was trying to work on a Trading theme league once. Something along the lines of a "Rent a player" for a week idea. Was considering making it that each team, each week, would be forced to trade his highest salaried player, best record to worst record, 2nd best to 2nd worst, etc. But, I got a headache trying to figure out out the pitfalls and nuances, so gave up. :) To get around the money restriction, you'd have to make it an $80m cap league, for example, but set it up as a $200m league.
