It did! I got the Producer to get off it fast though (I hope). The audio was fine until Bob bent down to interview Hendricks. That freaking tunnel killed me.[quote:66274ad035]
I "heard" the mike drop out and immediatly thought of you and how you were probably freaking out.

That was putting it, .... mildly.  [quote:66274ad035]Hope you had fun reguardless.

Had a sawbuck on Barbaro to win so that helped a little. :)

I'll be back at home tomorrow afternoon guys and we can get this draft finished up and settle on our divisions, and start loading out teams and playing our first season.

[b:66274ad035]WE WILL START PLAY ON MONDAY MAY 15th.

PLEASE PLAN ACCORDINGLY (meaning gettting your roster in order, getting your draft card and coming to a consensus on the realignment issue. I am going to say that the Roster Expansion has passed based on the tally of Ayes so far[/size:66274ad035].[/b:66274ad035]

G'nite all,

OK first things first.

I'm back, I still have a job (despite crummy RF audio), and it's time to put the fiinshing touches on this league and get it going.

[b:abfd5ed941]1) Bigmahon and Bubba Hotep need to make their final picks by tomorrow afternoon or [i:abfd5ed941]I will use the Excel File to randomly select players for them.[/i:abfd5ed941] This draft needs to be over immediately. It's not fair to the rest of the teams for it to linger any longer.

2) We need to settle on a Final Realignment scenario so we can start loading in teams. That ALSO will need to be done by tomorrow afternoon. [i:abfd5ed941]I am going to go over all the posts now and listen to all the points and come up with a final idea so Stay Tuned.[/i:abfd5ed941][/b:abfd5ed941][/size:abfd5ed941]

Reasons I like the Soccer-style realignment:

1) It allows for divisional realignment after every TSNSOM season

2) This format guarantees a reshuffling of the division after every TSNSOM season (I would hate to have to play the same three divisional foes 2-4 seasons a year)

3) Possible relagation to a lower division gives teams out of the playoff race an incentive to win up until game 162.

4) Over the "long-haul" the better "franchises" will rise to the top--not one year wonders

Before I weigh in the Realignment Issue I thought it would be beneficial for everyone to catchup on all the related posts.

So I am going to list them all, which will include whether or not thay had any responses at that time:

I guess how that goes. We need FD to explain.

Divisional Realignment Procedures 28 Apr 2006 19:25

West = A Division

The Division winner stays (no place "up" to go)
Middle two teams stay put
The bottom team in this division moves "down" to B

Central = B Division

The Division winner goes "up" to A
Middle two teams stay
Bottom team goes "down" to C

East = C Division

Division winner goes "up" to B
Middle two teams stay
Bottom teams stay as they con't move down any further

Goal: End up the Top division, stay out of the bottom division

Since we started with random division assignments the A division may not currently have the 4 best teams. Over time this is likely to occur.

I thought divisions were set up according to overall record - with the worst 4 in the east, middle 4 in the central and best 4 teams all in the west (or best in east and worst in west). Then, divisional assignments change based on overall records. Like English soccer divisions.

KD, I have posted this twice now and deferred to Fowldawg who explained the English Premiere System to me. I honestly don't know it myself, but he did and I am sure he can explain it again. For what it's worth, he did so in detail about 10 pages or so ago.

AF Dickie

I thought so too! 04 May 2006 17:46

best in the east etc... that is how it WAS proposed...they may have called it the English soccer way but it was proposed the other way.

I guess I didn't realize that this was how the English system was set up - I assumed that you win and you stay on top; you lose and you slide down. The draft was set up worst to first, correct? The way these divisions are set up places mixes good with bad. I don't understand what formula was used to set up the new divisions. Someone enlighten me please

Sorry to cause confusion. When I originally suggested the English Soccer style divisional assignment I thought people knew how it worked. Im a huge soccer fan-- what can i say

I dont care if we stick to this, but it was the original divisional alignment we decided to use. As to my post concerning the way it works, my use of "up" refered to moving to a more elite division not a direction on a web page page. But if it makes more sense to make the elite the division the east for visual purposes I will live. If this is the decision I recommend we flip the east and west so that teams remain the same.

With divisions, we decided that, after the first season, divisions will rotate according to record. The East will be the A league. Kind of the English Premiere League theory.

I'm in favor in keeping the best 4 teams (as determined by each year's total record based on 2 leagues per season [or 4 leagues per season if we ever go that route]. Divisional realignment is always to be done prior to the first league in each new year) in the East, the middle 4 in the central and the worst 4 in the west. I think its easier to see who are the top teams if we keep it visually in sync.

Division Structure

Postby cirills » Sun May 07, 2006 10:45 pm

Ok gang, here's how I see it.

According to our Original Thread in the Old Forum we agreed to go with an English Premiere League System. Unfortunately, for some of us, I don't think we realized just what the hell that meant at the time.

We also agreed to change it after we had played out the first year which was to have included TWO seasons, but of course we only ended up playing one.

The major dissents that I have read to this have come mainly from two fronts -- AFDickie and Kaviksdad.

Af wondered why a) he wasn't in the East and b) there was only one team moving per division.

The answer to both THOSE questions is the divisional structure system of the English Premiere League System (which I googled and researched today). It is exactly how FD described EXCEPT for his flip flop of east and West.

KD wants a structure that allows the Draft Order to become the divisonal alignment for the sake of clarity. True enough that will apply to the FIRST season but NOT to the Supplemental Draft or the Second season in each year. Also, our overall standings or the bonus points that determine them do not have to and should not have to determine our Divisions.

My take on this issue is twofold. Whether or not we understood it at the time we agreed to a system. Now finally understanding that system, I like its merits. Over the long haul it promotes a structure in which the top teams will resemble the best teams. I know that Bubba Hotep recently described a third alternative based on long term standings but that too creates a heirarchy that I don't think we need to have in our divisional makeup. As far as movement is concerned, how many teams move in a given season from one division to another isn't a huge concern of mine. Heck, if we were keeping as close to the tradition of playing REAL baseball as much as possible we would keep our diviions intact -- which would breed healthy rivalries in my opinion and bring in the strategy of playing to beat the teams in your divison since you would have an acute knowledge of their team.

But, the English Premier System DOES provide for movement and the Central Division actually changes out two teams (50% turnover) each time. The EAST only changes one because the TOP team has nowhere to go and the WEST division only one because the BOTTOM team has nowhere to go (which is how it should be).

I certainly know that I will be motivated to NOT be a regular player in the West and I don't think I should end up there if I happen to have one bad season of unlucky rolls and injuries (which I would if we did it on Straight Standings).

With slightly less turnover we would have some semblance of divisonal rivalry while also providing a system that will allow for movement in an upwards fashion, creating another side goal of achievement.

Thus, not only am I endorsing the system we agreed upon I am installing it so that we may proceed and load our leagues in.

However, we will not simply "flip-flop" the scenario FD described but actually BE CONSISTENT and do it the way it should have been done.

We will also do it after EACH SEASON so that we get as much movement as possible.

Here's how it works:

[b:3fba08c923]EAST = A Division

The Division winner stays (no place "up" to go)
Middle two teams stay put
The bottom team in this division moves "down" to B

CENTRAL = B Division

The Division winner goes "up" to A
Middle two teams stay
Bottom team goes "down" to C

WEST = C Division

Division winner goes "up" to B
Middle two teams stay
Bottom teams stay as they con't move down any further

Goal: End up the Top (EAST) division, stay out of the bottom (WEST) division.[/b:3fba08c923]

Our Final Standings from our last season were as follows (Our new owners have been subbed in for the ones they replaced):

Final Standings: USKL1

EAST
Detroit-Tigers 97 65 .599
fowldawg 86 76 .531
Ninersphan 85 77 .525
bigmahon 74 88 .457

CENTRAL
Ineluki 104 58 .642
Stoney 91 71 .562
Bubba Hotep 69 93 .426
sandlotshrink 60 102 .370

WEST
AF Dickie 93 69 .574
kaviksdad 76 86 .469
nythawk 72 90 .444
Cubit/Qk 65 97 .401

Thus, using these standings and the above formula we wind up with the following:

[b:3fba08c923]EAST
Ineluki
Detroit-Tigers
Fowldawg
Ninersphan

CENTRAL
AF Dickie
Stoney
Bigmahon
Bubba Hotep

WEST
Kaviksdad
Nythawk
Cubit
Sandlotshrink[/b:3fba08c923][/size:3fba08c923]

[b:3fba08c923]I am going to create the league right now and the EAST teams listed above may start joining asap.

I think this system provides for enough variability over time to satisfy those who want that, while also providing some stability for those who don't.

But MORE importantly, IT IS what we agreed to (thus providing us with stability AND consistency), it has now been correctly applied, AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, it allows us to proceed forward now with the playing of our league.

When we address the possible changing of our homeparks after season 3 we can readdress how and if that should affect Divisional Realignemnet.

But for now, this provides us a system that has [i:3fba08c923]elements[/i:3fba08c923] of all those mentioned, AND ALLOWS US TO MOVE FORWARD.[/b:3fba08c923]

Speaking of which:

[b:3fba08c923]1) Bigmahon and Bubba Hotep need to make their final picks by tomorrow afternoon or [i:3fba08c923]I will use the Excel File to randomly select players for them.[/i:3fba08c923] This draft needs to be over immediately. It's not fair to the rest of the teams for it to linger any longer.[/b:3fba08c923][/size:3fba08c923]

LEAGUE NAME

Postby cirills » Sun May 07, 2006 11:05 pm

[b:1f4e75c6e2]USKL ELITE[/b:1f4e75c6e2][/size:1f4e75c6e2]

It has no waivers (doesn't need them), is Advanced (for those who care about such things), is obviously a DH league, and will have 10% penalty for drops (adhering as close as possible to our Unlimited Salary Cap theme provisng for maximum movement.

I will now PM the password to the East (see the above post please!!)
